If you’re not entirely sure what constitutes “festival style“, look no further than the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (tip: just call it Coachella if you want to be ~in with the youth~).
One of the biggest and most popular contemporary music festivals in the world, Coachella is known for two things: heart-breakingly hip lineup of performers, and fashion.
Over the years, a Coachella “uniform” of sorts has emerged. Attendees, famous or not, can be found in any combination of the following: kaftans, ripped denim, double denim, boots, leotards, crochet, headscarves, flower crowns, fringed suede, swimsuits masquerading as regular clothing… you get the picture.
Over the weekend, while you were paying way too much for avo on toast at a cafe or catching up on House of Cards, the first three days of Coachella swung into action, and the celebrities were as #fashun-oriented as ever.
Taylor Swift teamed a lightning strike-printed jacket with newly-bleached hair. Never one to miss a pun opportunity, she dubbed the look “Bleachella”:
In a subsequent Instagram post, Swift made an astute observation about the evolution of Coachella style, writing: “I feel like maybe chokers are the new flower crowns?” Seems she’s onto something.
Meanwhile, Glee star Lea Michele proved just how versatile activewear really is in her Fabletics ensemble. Sing it with us now — “Going to Coachella in my activewear… ”
Putting fashion aside for a moment, the Coachella crowd were pleasantly surprised when Kesha took to the stage during Zedd’s set.
Kendall Jenner at least attempted to be sun safe in the Californian desert, but we’re not sure a wide-brimmed hat will provide all that much protection when teamed with a teeny-tiny (but very pretty) lace bralette.
Speaking of Kendall Jenner, footage has emerged of the model being leapfrogged by her rumoured new boyfriend, basketball player Jordan Clarkson. It’s an impressive feat, considering Kendall isn’t exactly on the short side at just under 180cm.
