1. FGM survivors call for new “restoration” surgery in Australia.

Survivors of female genital mutilation are calling for a new surgery to be brought to Australia, with the hope of restoring some of the victims’ sexual functions.

In a petition to the head of the Australian Medical Association, Australian FGM survivor Khadija Gbla asks for the association to permit clitoral restoration surgery.

“[We] hope that we can reclaim some of our sexual function through a surgery developed by Dr Pierre Foldes in France. This surgery, known as clitoral restoration, has already helped thousands of women who have been mutilated,” Gbla wrote on Change.org.

“At the moment we do not have this choice in Australia. Not one surgeon in Australia is trained in this potentially life changing technique. We are calling on you to help us to get the surgery to Australia, to allow people like me to access the surgery.”

Gbla, the executive director of the not-for-profit No FGM Australia, says there are tens of thousands of FGM victims living in Australia.

2. Police renew appeal to find William Tyrrell.

New South Wales Police have renewed an appeal for public assistance in the search for missing toddler William Tyrrell.

As part of National Missing Person’s Week, police are making another call for anyone with information to come forward.

Tyrrell went missing from his grandmother’s home in Port Macquarie on the NSW mid-north coast on September 12, 2014.

The three-year-old — who has since turned four — was wearing a Spiderman suit when he disappeared.

ABC News reports NSW Police and Bravehearts have launched a nation-wide Where’s William campaign, which encourages people to get involved in the search and erect posters to find the boy.

“People will not be able to open a newspaper, post a letter, visit a doctor, fill up, or even drive down the highway without seeing the face of little William,” Bravehearts executive Hetty Johnston said.

3. City erupts in protest after woman imprisoned for “breast assault”.

A woman has been jailed for three and a half months in Hong Kong after she allegedly “assaulted” a police officer with her breast.

CNN reports the woman, 30-year-old Ng Lai-Ying, may have accidentally bumped the officer with her chest, after which she was knocked to the ground.

The woman claimed she was groped and indecently assaulted by the officer.

The judge was not persuaded.

“You used your female identity to trump up the allegation that the officer had molested you. This is a malicious act,” deputy magistrate Chan Pik-kiu said, according to CNN.

Following the ruling, protesters wearing bras gathered outside Wan Chai police station.

“I believe we are all baffled as to how a breast attack works,” Ng Cheuk Ling, a 24-year-old activist told CNN.

“It’s ridiculous and alarming that the judge didn’t just convict the protester of assaulting police with her breast, but that her seeking help was also considered part of the assault,” she told CNN. “Should we silence ourselves in the face of sexual violence?”

4. Woman kidnaps own daughter to avoid vaccination.

A woman has been arrested after she kidnapped her three-year-old daughter in order to keep her from being vaccinated.

After a year on the run, Megan Everett, 23, was arrested by police in Palatka, Florida.

According to Jezebel, Everett left her Florida home town in 2014 after the girl’s father, Robert Baumann, didn’t agree the little girl should be home-schooled.

“You are a great dad…If I let them take her and vaccinate her and brainwash her, I wouldn’t be doing what’s right. I cannot let a judge tell me how my daughter should be raised,” Everett wrote in a letter she left for her boyfriend, Carlos.

However, after Everett’s case appeared on CNN series The Hunt, residents of a town four hours away recognised the runaway and her daughter.

Everett is facing multiple charges including kidnapping.

5. Tanning injections linked to heart problems and cancer.

A new drug that allegedly helps its users tan is being sold in Australia, despite not being approved for use in the country.

Medical professionals are now warning the injected drug could lead to brain, heart and kidney problems, as well as skin cancer, The Age reports.

Melanotan-2 is being sold in pharmacies at a cost of $300 every three months.

The product claims to improve your tan, but might also lead to loss of appetite, drowsiness, nausea, increased sex drive and spontaneous erections.

Dermatologist Victora Mar told Fairfax Media there were “too many risks” associated with M2, and warned Australians against using the drug.
