“I want my vagina to be the cleanest in the country.”
Yep, there are no holds barred when it comes to Shelly Horton talking about her vagina – and for good reason.
It turns out more than a few of us, including dear Shelly, have had the wrong idea when it comes to cleaning down there.
Thanks to Dr Ginni Mansberg we can clear things up once and for all.

I do not get this at all. Vaginas self clean - every female should know that.
Um, yes, the vagina is a self-cleaning organ internally but 'you should know that' the outer labia should be washed with a gentle soap such as the pH balanced Vagisil and a gentle cloth, especially when you have your period. People really think they should not wash their genitals incase they disturb their pH a little? That, is disgusting. Pretty sure people wash their faces with soaps and cleansers and don't worry about their pH slightly changing.
Not sure people think genitals shouldn't be washed at all. I think most are aware that there's rarely need to use anything more than clean, warm water.
-Done twice a day, this is exactly the recommendation of most independent gynaecologists.
The vagina IS an internal organ. The outer labia are part of the vulva. Vulva is external, ie the area down there. The vagina is internal, and not external.
The vagina, along with your eyes, are self-cleaning organs. Best way not to mess with your pH is to not do anything.
