I have a secret to tell you, and it’s going to change your life.

You see, I have a special playlist on my iPod that only gets accessed once a week. I’m not allowed to listen to it unless I’ve got a mop in one hand and a roll of paper towels in the other.

It’s my Cleaning Playlist and it is AWESOME. It’s full of the most bop-inducing, groove-inspiring tunes known to man. It’s some of my favourite-ever music, even though I only ever listen to it while cleaning toilets and wiping down bookshelves.

Having an amazing Cleaning Playlist is beneficial for two reasons in particular:

a) I love it so much that I want to listen to it. All the time. But because I can only listen when cleaning – I am motivated to clean. I actually WANT to swipe that mould off my shower walls. I know, I know – crazy talk, right? WRONG. It works.

b) Excellent music means that I clean faster, with more energy, and finish much faster. Leaving me more time for the funner things in life, like cheese plates and wine.

So here we go. 7 of the songs on my playlist. I could tell you the others, but then I’d have to kill you. (Not really. But there are only so many Youtube videos I can include in the one article.)

1. Florence and the Machine – Spectrum

Florence is one of my very best favourites and this song is so much fun. Incidentally, the video clip is fantastic – lots of ballerinas, men dressed in what seem to be silver leather leggings, and SPARKLES. So many sparkles. Not that I watch the video clip. I’m busy cleaning, of course. Cough cough cough.

2. Taylor Swift – We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together

The first time my best friend and I heard this song – we played it on repeat for an entire fortnight. We drove to unnecessary places just so we could blast it extra-loud through the car speakers. I think even people who pretend to hate Taylor Swift have found themselves dancing around their rooms at some point, lip-synching along to this song. So. Damn. Catchy.

3. Blackstreet – No Diggity (Fare Soldi Remix)

I don’t know what it is about this song but I could literally have it on repeat for the rest of my life and not be able to stop dancing. Maybe because the lyrics of the song are so encouraging? “I like the way you work it!” is a nice thing to hear when you are cleaning a mouldy fridge.

4. Red Hot Chili Peppers – Can’t Stop

The first line of this song says it all: “Can’t stop, addicted to the shin-dig!” I have adapted it slightly so in my head it’s, “Can’t stop, addicted to the clean-ing!” See? Even the Red Hot Chili Peppers are on my side.

5. MIA – Paper Planes

Dancing along to this song is just about the most fun I’ve ever had. In the chorus there are a series of gunshots; I like to take aim with my bottle of cleaning liquid and pretend I’m shooting mould with it. I know, I know, it’s the small things.

6. Of Monsters and Men – Little Talks

This song starts off slow and builds up to just about the happiest chorus you’ve ever heard. Plus the music video is very Where The Wild Things Are. (Again, not that I’m watching the videos…)

7. Beyonce – Run The World

One word: Epic. Just… epic.

Coping with dust clouds, re-vacuuming spilled dirt and handling tangles of hair with bare hands are now things of the past. The new Electrolux UltraCaptic bagless vacuum cleaner features an innovative “compact & go” dirt disposal system, making the chore of post vacuuming clean-up a more enjoyable and fuss-free affair.

Thanks to the UltraCaptic’s “Compact and Go” dirt disposal system, the vacuum squishes the dirt, dust and contents into a compressed form that drops neatly into the bin without any fuss. Compacting the dust also means more areas can be cleaned before emptying the vacuum.
