ROADTEST: ‘I tried the best-selling serum that promises firmer, more radiant skin. Here’s my verdict.'

As a beauty editor, I try a lot of products. Hundreds. And while it can be fun and exciting, I have to say – I rarely find something that really intrigues me.

So, when the new Clarins Double Serum Light Texture slid across my desk and gave me a wink, I was surprised by just how much I felt like I needed it on my face.

Y'see, I've tried the OG before (who hasn't) and it's truly one that stands out from the crowd. It's a bestseller for good reason (just take a look at some of the reviews). And, it made me curious to find out how this new version shaped up.

So, I decided to give it a whirl for one week.

Here are my honest thoughts.

My skin concerns.

Before I get into it, though – it's probably best to tell you a bit about my skin.

One of my major concerns would be dehydration. My skin is often thirsty and dull and I find that this makes pesky fine lines and wrinkles more visible.

As a sensitive skinned girlie who struggles with redness, I'm also regularly blessed with hormonal breakouts and congestion – particularly, around my chin area. So, there's that too.

Ideally, the product would tackle all of these things, and give instant results with long-term benefits. I also wanted the product to feel light on my skin and not too greasy. And, I also wanted it to feel like it was giving my skin a nice big drink.

QUITE the task, indeed.

What is Clarins Double Serum Light Texture?

In case you haven't met before, please say hello to the innovative new Double Serum light formula.

Isn't she lovely?

Now, let's start with the basics: what exactly is Clarins Double Serum Light Texture?

Good question, and an important one at that.

A dual phase, water and oil serum (it features the same golden ratio as the best-selling Double Serum). This new lightweight version is one of those multi-tasking formulas that do it all – promising to boost radiance, while also locking in moisture, which essentially helps to tackle visible signs of ageing.

Each pump of Double Serum Light Texture contains 2/3 water phase and a 1/3 oil phase, except this new version has been re-engineered to be 50 per cent lighter, for an ultra-lightweight, weightless feel.

Ooft! Where do we sign up?

On the ingredients front, it features an impressive 21 plant extracts (it smells like a floaty, relaxing facial treatment), including turmeric, to boost the skin’s five vital functions. This includes things like hydration, nutrition, oxygenation, regeneration and protection.

The packaging is weighty and luxe (feels very high-end) and features a fancy double chamber that releases a customised amount of product into your palm. Meaning? You don't overdo it.

How cool!

Once dispensed into your palm, the two concentrates basically mix together into one powerful and mighty serum that easily absorbs into the skin and effectively targets all visible signs of skin ageing (fine lines, dullness, dry skin and such).

The best part? It's also suitable for all skin types and can be used morning and night. It is perfect for those who prefer a lighter texture for their serum (ME).

The verdict.

Now! The all important verdict.

I’m very pleased to report the new Clarins Double Serum Light Texture met all of my expectations – plus more.

I used it morning and night for a week (possibly the hottest, most humid week Sydney has had in agessss) and found the formula to have a delightfully non-oily and non-sticky texture. It absorbs quickly and it left my face feeling instantly fresh, smooth and comfortable.

Over the course of a week, I found my skin not only look brighter and more alive, but my moisture levels had improved significantly. This is honestly one of my ongoing battles – trying to keep my skin hydrated and happy.

Everything felt soft, hydrated and healthy and there was a noticeable improvement in the niggling fine lines and crow's feet, particularly around my eye area. My skin also appeared plumper and smoother immediately after each use.

Did I take some snaps? You bet I took photos documenting the before and after results!

Quite the difference, wouldn't you say? My skin looks at least 85 times better.

My favourite part? It sat so well under makeup! Gah, I loved it.

As someone whose skin regularly looks quite dry and flaky under foundation, I found this serum to be the perfect way to prep my skin pre-foundation, for a seamless, smooth finish, every time.

In fact, I'm considering mixing a little bit of it in with my foundation next time for an all-over radiant, glowy finish. Because, why not?

Overall, my skin looks healthier and more radiant as a result, and fine lines and wrinkles are smoother and less obvious. And, who doesn’t love a product that makes you look like you drink four litres of water every day?

It's definitely one of those multi-purpose goodies I'll be keeping on rotation. I'll be back for more, Clarins.
