'I started spiraling.' Chrissy Teigen thought she'd discovered she had an identical twin.

For a hot minute, Chrissy Teigen was convinced she had a long-lost identical twin.

Strap in, it's a rollercoaster of a story.

On Sunday, Teigen posted a video on Instagram, saying she's been on a "health and wellness" journey and "trying to figure out about my past and my family".

After consulting her doctor she took a DNA test, explaining how although she did one a few years ago, this one was more advanced.

"I paid for some of the upgrades, and the first thing that came up after I found out that I was part Neanderthal was this," the 37-year-old said, pointing to a screenshot showing off her results. 

"I have an identical twin."

Teigen was stunned; and recalled how she first assumed it had to be a joke. Then she started "spiralling".

"I call my dad and I’m literally saying, 'Dad, like, hey – did you seen me come out of mum's vagina and were there two of me?'" she said in the video. 

Her dad laughed at her and said: "No, I was there, there are not two of you!"

To corroborate her dad’s story, Teigen reached out to her sister, Tina. When she asked her if she had a twin, her sister gasped, leading Chrissy to believe the results were true. 

"I was like, 'Oh my god, I do.' At this point, I’m making excuses for my whole life," she recalled. 

"I’m like, 'This is why I’m co-dependent, cause, like, my twin was ripped away from me. I’ve always felt something missing, and this is why I have addiction issues.'"

Luckily, it was Tina who remembered that her sister was supposed to appear on a show called Finding Your Roots, where celebrities trace their family tree.

Teigen's episode never aired. She had, however, completed a DNA test for it.

"They had us all take DNA tests, and they put it under, like, secret names so the world couldn’t tell," she said. 

"My identical twin was myself. I was matching myself."

Boom.
