'I tried the brand new matte blush wands from Charlotte Tilbury. Here's my honest review.'

Mamamia’s Tried and Tested series is your review of the latest to hit our desks in beauty, health and wellness. You won’t find any #sponsored content here, just honest, relatable and independent advice. This week, Mamamia writer Shannen Findlay reviews the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Matte Beauty Blush Wands.

For the last year or so, I've been riding the liquid blush train and getting everyone else to jump on it, too.

Because I love a good liquid blush. They're creamy, buildable and give a healthy, dewy flush to the cheeks. Even when I'm barely wearing anything on my face, I at least need to have some colour happening.

That's why, when I heard that Charlotte Tilbury had a new range of their Pillow Talk blushes coming out, I sighed... because I knew just how hard it would be to get my hands on them.

Thankfully, luck was on my side and I managed to nab the whole range! I have a lot of liquid blushes to compare to the new Matte Beauty Blush Wands but there's a stark difference: none of the ones I already had are strictly matte.

As soon as I tried the new Charlotte Tilbury wands, they reminded me of Makeup By Mitchell Blursh (which cost $30 for 6ml of product). They have similar pigments and blend just about the same – the only real difference is, MBM has a sheeny finish whilst CT blushes dry down to a soft, radiant matte.

Now let's crunch some numbers.

These babies go for $55 a tube and each contains 10ml of product. Depending on which shade you choose, you only need a little. When I say 'a little'I mean a litttttleeeee – as in, one single 'dot' of product.

Disclaimer: I've never tried anything else from Charlotte Tilbury's Pillow Talk range myself, so I didn't have that point of comparison. Howeverwhat I do have is enough liquid blushes to give a beauty school a run for its money, so I felt confident that I could give these gorgeous little wands an honest and knowledgeable review.

Here are my honest thoughts.

Pillow Talk (a mauve pink).

Man oh man, I was not expecting this shade to be so soft on the skin. If your skin tone sits somewhere in the middle, then I'd recommend the shade Pillow Talk for a natural pinch of colour.

I didn't think it was going to suit me so well and I certainly did not think it would blend as easily as it did. I needed about five to six dots of the product to get it to really pop against my skin tone.

Basically, it's almost my favourite of the bunch.

Rating: 9/10.

Pink Pop (a light pink).

THIS. This blush might just haunt me in my dreams. It's eye-catching (but not clownish). It's punchy. It's sweet. It looks beautiful.

There's not much else to say. It's just perfect.

Rating: 1000/10 (Is that allowed?)

Peach Pop (a coral pink).

On someone with a fairer skin tone, Peach Pop would look like a million bucks.

It took quite a few layers for it to show up on my skin tone, but it was still bright and added life back into my skin.

Rating: 7/10.

Dream Pop (a cherry red).

This was actually the first shade I applied and if it isn't clear, Dream Pop is the most pigmented shade in the range. It's a flushy cherry tone that is easy to blend – despite it coming on a little strong.

On first impressions, I thought it would be my favourite of the bunch, but it's actually not! I don't think anything could compare to Pink Pop.

I'd recommend this for darker skin tones than mine, but I'm still gonna wear the heck out of it – and proudly.

Rating: 8/10.

The verdict.

After trying all four shades of the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Matte Beauty Blush Wand range, it's easy to understand why the brand has a hard time keeping anything they create in stock. It's said that CT sells one Pillow Talk product every six seconds.

The only unfortunate thing about being able to get my hand on these is that I won't be reaching for my other liquid blushes nearly as much.

C'est la vie, as they say!
