Cersei Lannister had a miscarriage. But the scene never made it into Game of Thrones.

During the entire series of Game of Thrones, despite the evil she orchestrated, the one thing Cersei Lannister cared about was her children.

But in season seven a scene that could have added an extra layer of trauma, emotion and depth to the show’s villain was left on the cutting room floor.

Lena Headey, who played Cersei appeared at Comic Con where she let slip about a miscarriage scene that she filmed that never made it to air.

“We shot a scene that never made it into season 7 which was where I lose the baby and it was a really traumatic great moment for Cersei and it never made it. I kind of loved doing that because I thought it would have served her differently,” she said.

Cersei’s three other children died throughout the series.

King Joffrey died on his wedding day in season four. He was poisoned.

Myrcella was killed in season five by Ellaria Sand as revenge against Cersei, and Tommen ended his life in season six after witnessing a wildfire explosion that killed his wife.

But in season seven, Cersei fell pregnant again with her twin brother/lover's child.

She was expecting it to be their fresh start, and in revealing the news to Jaime she tried to use it as a reason for him to stay with her, instead of going to help fight the Army of the Dead. But Jaime left anyway.

There were some fan theories that the pregnancy wasn't even real, with a prophecy Cersei received as a child telling her she'd carry three children.

But a miscarriage still played into this prophecy as she never brought the baby to term.

During season eight, we saw Cersei manipulate Euron Greyjoy into thinking she was pregnant with his child so he'd align with her, but apart from that her pregnancy was rarely mentioned.

When Jaime and Cersei reunited at the end of the show and died in each other's arms, we (the audience) thought their baby had died with them.

But it turns out Cersei had already lost the baby, and knowing that would have changed the way the audience thought of that scene and the couple's death.

It wasn't just the omission of the miscarriage scene that Lena wasn't a fan of.

She has also revealed she wasn't impressed with her own death scene.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, she said that she "hadn't sat down drunkenly with the writers yet," but if she were to do that, she would say: "I wanted a better death".

"Obviously you dream of your death," she told the publication.

"You could go in any way on that show so I was kind of gutted. But I just think they couldn't have pleased everyone."
