Celine Dion has made the hard decision to take an extended break from work to care for her husband René Angélil, 72, who is battling cancer for the second time.
The Quebec singer has cancelled her upcoming tour and Las Vegas shows to be by her husband’s side.
Angélil was first diagnosed with and treated for throat cancer in 1999. He also underwent surgery in December last year.
The Las Vegas Sun reported doctors replaced parts of his tongue to give him the ability to speak.
The couple spent time in the Bahamas on a luxury yacht vacation shortly after this procedure. But fears that Angéli’s fight was far from over were seen to be confirmed when he quit Celine’s management and business empire after managing the 46 year old’s career since 1980.
In a statement via Caesars Entertainment Celine said, “Since Rene’s surgery last December to remove a cancerous tumor, it’s been a very difficult and stressful time for us dealing with the day-to-day challenges of fighting this disease while trying to juggle a very active show business schedule and raising our three young children.”
She added, “I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband’s healing, and to do so, it’s important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children. I also want to apologize to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support.”
Our thoughts are with their family at this time.
