A 'fancy' skincare routine and a tubular mascara: Everything Celeste Barber puts on her face.

What I Put On My Face is Mamamia’s celebrity beauty series that takes you inside the beauty cabinets of some of Australia’s most influential people. From what skincare products they use to their go-to makeup tips, it’s a pervy look at exactly what they put on their face. And body. And hair. You get the idea.

This week, we speak to Celeste Barber about the beauty products she reaches for and the hair tool she raves about. Enjoy!

If you're a dame with a phone, chances are you know who Celeste Barber is. She's Australia's comedy queen. Thanks to her hilarious celebrity parodies, the comedian, actor and writer has been a pretty big deal on the internet for years now — in fact, she started posting her #celestechallengeaccepted spoofs all the way back in 2015 (which feels confusing, because we're all still 23 years old?).

With a whopping 9.6 million followers on Instagram, a recent Netflix series and an exploding international profile (she's regularly rubbing shoulders with celebs and recently appeared on Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast with Amanda Hirsch. HUGE), Barber has now decided to pivot into the beauty space, with her new brand: Booie Beauty.

Yes! A beauty brand. Why? Well, as a busy woman and mum who juggles many many hats.

"I've always loved makeup and wanted to create a range of products to 'get you out the door'," Celeste told Mamamia.

"I feel the makeup game has become so complicated and elitist and I wanted to make uncomplicated, good-quality products that bring out the best version of you and you don't need to watch a 75-minute makeup tutorial to understand."

Feels.

Here, we sat down with Celeste to discuss everything she puts on her face, from her affordable favourites to her must-have 'fancy' skincare splurges.

Here's what she had to say.

On her everyday makeup look.

When we asked her for her go-to makeup look, Celeste told us there's one particular feature she likes to highlight.

"Lashes, lashes, lashes. I'm all lashes and legs — in between is a big old mess! When it comes to my everyday makeup face, I like a fresh, easy, glowy look and then a bloody good lash."

When it comes to her fave mascara, Celeste said she can't go past a good tubular mascara. If you're not familiar, unlike your regular mascara, tubular mascaras work to create a tiny little tube on each lash — that’s why they’re so easy to remove — and you won’t get the dreaded panda eyes.

"I spent a lot of time working on our You’re Welcome tubular mascara, and we have nailed it. It's the tits," she said.

On her favourite makeup products.

"To be completely honest, I'm all BOOIE," she shared. "I really practice what I preach, and I've worked really hard on these products and designed them to be exactly what I want: simple, affordable and excellent, so I like to have them all over my face." Fair call!

For a glowy base, Celeste said she uses Bloody Delicious Hydrating Illuminator - Champagne, $39, along with BAM BAM BAM - Rose, $22, for a hint of colour on her cheeks. You can also use this on your lips and eyes — we love a good multi-tasker. In fact, our very own Holly Wainwright rates it, and said it's just as good as the expensive stuff.

For her brows, Celeste likes Bring Back The Bush - Blonde, $21, an eyebrow tint and gel hold, along with the aforementioned You’re Welcome Tubular Mascara, $31, for her lashes.

For lips, Celeste said she's a fan of her very own Where the hell is my…? Lip Stick Balm - Rose — a nourishing "non-stick lip stick."

When it comes to the all-important base, she also has a couple of other staples on heavy rotation. "My favourite tinted SPF is Rationale and when I'm onstage or shooting I love Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, $115." Hey, it's popular for good reason!

On her skincare routine.

"Since becoming fancy and getting fancy things sent to me, I've really upped my skincare game," said Celeste. And pls yes, do go on...

"I need moisture, and because I travel so much I've become one of those people that wears hydration masks on the plane while chugging red wine. BALANCE."

Our kind of girl, tbh.

"I cleanse morning and night with either Victoria Beckham Cleansing Oil or Go-To Fancy Face Oil Cleanser. Then I use La Mer Renewal Oil (which is super fancy and indulgent) then Estee Lauder Daywear Moisturiser (my mum loves Estee Lauder and I used to steal her cream). At night I use La Mer Moisturising Cream (so fancy)."

Very fancy, indeed.

On her favourite hair products.

When it comes to hair, Celeste shared, "I have thin hair. More like feathers than hair, really. So, any sort of thickening products I can get my hands on I will."

"I recently got sent TYPEBEA and they are fantastic," she said. In case you're not familiar, it's a fairly new haircare brand created by none other than singer Rita Ora and Anna Lahey (the founder of Vida Glow). The products include the Overnight Boosting Peptide, $80, Strength + Length Shampoo and Conditioner, $40 and the Hydra & Gloss Treatment, $50.

As well as nourishing her hair with strengthening products, Celeste also said she has a hair wizard in the form of Brad Mullins when it comes to styling.

"I'm lucky that when I'm in the public eye, Brad Mullins is in control of my hair, and he is an absolute wizard and manages to make me look like I have hair like Alanis Morissette." (AKA the best hair in the business).

On the beauty trend she's loving.

With a new trend slinking around every time you pick up your phone, the beauty world can be noisy. Confusing. And a wee bit scary.

For Celeste, beauty doesn't need to be overcomplicated or difficult. That's why she started her makeup brand, after all. And this echoes in her approach to skincare and makeup.

"Less is more. I'm loving the fresh-faced look where it’s about highlighting what you've got and bringing out the best version of you."

On self-care.

"Taking my dog to the beach each afternoon with the kids is my happy place — we call it our mental health walk. I also like to sauna; we have a sauna at home and sitting in there for 20 minutes as often as possible helps to recharge."

"When I'm on tour after a show I like to have a glass of wine and some American-strength Melatonin, get into bed with my laptop and watch Veep until I fall asleep. It's such a treat that I really look forward to."
