Who is in charge of Britney Spears?
Apparently, it’s not Britney Spears. Spears’ fiance Jason Trawick has reportedly applied to become her joint guardian. If that application is accepted he’ll be responsible for Spears’ general wellbeing – including food, clothing and medical care.
The 30-year-old singer has already been under conservatorship for four years – her father Jamie has had legal power over her financial affairs since the singer was admitted to hospital for psychiatric treatment in 2008 after her public breakdown.
Jamie Spears was granted temporary conservatorship at that time and the courts later agreed the arrangement should continue indefinitely because Spears was “susceptible to undue influence”.
Given the conservatorship is still in place, judges obviously continue to question Britney’s ability to control her own affairs. So can someone who doesn’t control their own finances, food choices and what to wear make a rational decision about whether to get married?
Well, when it comes time for Britney to walk down the aisle, the wedding will have to be approved by all conservators – including her fiance Jason.

Radar Online isn't known to be the most reputable of sources. I'd take this with a grain of salt.
Come on... this is such a ridiculous article.
If you have gone to a solicitor to do your will you would have most likely been advised to do this. My husband has guardianship of me and me of him. It only comes into play if you are severely injured or deemed by a doctor (after many tests) you are incompetent of making your own decisions.
You are crazy not to do this! especially if you have kids. You don't want to leave decisions on your wellbeing to a stranger. Of course you want your partner to be able to make decisions on your behalf.
Totally different thing. I think you are confused.
Sarah, I believe you are referring to an Enduring Power of Attorney which is different to a guardian.
In NSW enduring guardianship relates to health and lifestyle decisions and an enduring power of attorney relates to financial decisions. It is not unusual for partners to sign both documents.
I don't know what it means to be a "guardian" in the US.
