Cats dressed exactly like their owners must be a part of your life immediately.

Welcome to Mamamia’s art endeavour, the Voulez-Vous Project. Every week we celebrate emerging artists, designers, illustrators, creators and women who knit using their vaginas. (Kidding. Maybe.) Our aim: to help the internet become a slightly more beautiful, captivating, or thought-provoking place by making art accessible.

Creativity comes in many, many forms. It can be obvious, like a brilliant painting or a song. And it can be a little more abstract, like dressing your cat up in matching clothes to you.

Photographer Kristin Cofer is a creative force whose talent lies in the latter category. She’s been taking photographs since she was a child, and says she has always had some kind of camera in her hand.

Los Angeles-based, Kristin has recently completed a photo series that shows cats dressed like their owners. If you’re a cat lover, it’s more than you’ve ever imagined. If you’re a dog person, you’ll want to immediately do the same.

The brainwave came from Kristin’s colleague, writer Chin Lu, who decided to expand on an existing series of Kristin’s called “Cats & Dames”.

“I already have a series of intimate portraits of women and their cats called ‘Cats & Dames’,” Kristin told Mamamia.

“[Chin Lu] had the idea to make it more fun. Fortunately, I am good friends with a fashion designer and crazy cat lady, Danielle Garrabrants, who was more than happy to design the tiny clothes.”

But why cats?

Kristin says a lot of her friends are cat owners, which evidently means they are wonderful people. But it’s more than that.

“I enjoy taking photos of people in their natural environment. It’s a very intimate experience when someone invites you into their personal space. Each shoot I would hang out with the owner and the cat for a while, getting to know them. All the cats were different, and it was such a pleasure to work with each of them.”

Like any creative project, there will be criticisms. But the photographer’s passion is so obvious, she doesn’t let it effect her work. In fact, she’s now working on a part two of the project.
