The host of Britain's Got Talent has left the show to enter rehab.

He’s wildly recognisable, but many Aussies would struggle to put a name to the host of Britain’s Got Talent‘s face.

Of course, we see Ant McPartlin light up our tellies on Channel Nine regularly. There are few hosts as happy and charismatic as the 41-year-old, who has held his presenter spot on the reality TV program for a decade.

But behind the wide grin and jovial persona has been a hidden battle with substance abuse, causing McPartlin to walk away from the show mid-season to seek help this week.

McPartlin isn't looking to conceal the reasons behind his abrupt departure, either; telling local newspapers depression prompted his reliance on the prescription drug Tramadol and alcohol. He will be spending up to two months in an unidentified rehabilitation facility.

“The first step is to admit to yourself you need help," McPartlin, who also played a small role in British film Love Actually, told The Sun.

“I feel like I have let a lot of people down and for that I am truly sorry."

Having married his longtime girlfriend and makeup artist Lisa Armstrong in 2006, McPartlin also took the opportunity to reach out to those who have supported him.

“I want to thank my wife, family and closest friends for helping me through this really difficult time," he said.

“I’ve spoken out because I think it’s important that people ask for help if they’re going through a rough time and get the proper treatment to help their recovery.”
