This bride planned her wedding in just 24 hours, for the most important reason you can imagine
Aly Femia and her husband Anthony were supposed to marry in September 2015 – but a heartbreaking development left them with just one day to plan their perfect day.
Mary Quinn, Aly's mother, had been suffering neck pains and went to her doctor to have them checked out. The diagnosis was one nobody could have expected: incurable lung cancer - the same illness that claimed the life of Aly's father 16 years earlier. The cancer had spread to Mary's brain, causing the soreness in her neck.
Aly was determined to have Mary at her wedding, and asked the doctor how soon she should plan it to ensure she could be there. His answer: "Tomorrow".
With the help of their families and the staff of Mary's hospital, Aly and Anthony arranged their wedding for the following day. A doctor took Aly dress shopping, while the hospital staff donated jewellery, flowers, a wedding cake and food.
The ceremony was conducted on January 29 in Mary's ward, and Aly's stepfather walked her down the aisle. Mary died five days later.
"I'm so glad that she was there to watch me say 'I do' and see me marry my best friend," Aly told BuzzFeed. "I couldn't have asked for a more perfect day."
