Want to know how celebrities really spend their days? Yep, us too. In Mamamia's A Day in the Life series, fascinating people share everything from what they eat for breakfast to their pre-bedtime rituals.

This week, we find out what life is like for Australian sprinter Bree Masters.

Right now, Australian track sprinter Bree Masters is counting down the days until the Paris Olympics in July.

The hopeful Olympian will soon find out if she's made the team for the multi-sport event and will represent Australia in the 100 metre sprint and secure a place in the 4x100 metre relay squad — but until then, she's keeping herself busy. Which isn't hard to do when you're managing a career in PR and marketing alongside being an athlete competing at the highest levels.

Alas, somehow, she makes time for a chat with Mamamia between meetings, training and travelling — despite barely having unpacked her bags from her quick work trip to Japan.

"I was only gone for two days for a race and then I flew to Sydney. Then I had a stay at my family's home in Sydney and then back to Brisbane this morning. Now I'm going to work!" Bree shares.

She starts off most mornings by waking up at 5:45am.

"I pretty much check my phone straight away," Bree confesses. "It's probably a bad habit, but I am journalling at the moment to track my recovery and see how many hours I slept. I'm a little bit addicted to that."

Then there's breakfast, Bree's favourite meal of the day, some caffeine ("obviously") and then it's straight to the gym.

"I live on the Gold Coast, but I train at the Queensland Academy of Sport, which is in Brisbane, so I'm sitting in peak hour traffic to make it in time for my 8:30am start," she explains, adding that she works out for 90 minutes then has a massage for another hour.

"Then I'm going into the office," she tells Mamamia. "I work part time at LSKD, a sportswear brand that's been really supportive of my athletics and helped work my day job around my training. I decide my own hours mostly, so there is flexibility."

Being as busy as Bree means she has to plan ahead when it comes to meals. Sometimes, that's not always the easiest thing to do — so she tries to always have snacks handy.

"I have a Harvest Snaps obsession, they're perfect snacks, but I also love to incorporate them into my meals," she tells Mamamia, adding that Original Salted is her favourite flavour, but the kick of the Chilli is a close second and a new favourite is the Sour Cream & Chives.

"I love anything crunchy and salty. It's an addiction of mine. I throw a packet in my work bag and in my gym bag before I leave for the day. I've also been putting them in my salads — especially a caesar salad for a bit more crunch."

"I like to keep it healthy and fun, and Harvest Snaps are a good way to spice things up during meal or snack time."

After wrapping up a day in the office, she shoots home, makes dinner and then makes a concerted effort to carry out her "wind-down routine".

"I have a sauna at home, and that's a huge part of it," she says. "I try to do it every day or every second day, for about 20 minutes before I go to bed. It's a key recovery tool for my training because it sets me up for a really nice sleep."

Managing it all — the meals, the career as an athlete and then the career in PR — takes a few key special abilities, especially good time management, says Bree... but it's also more than that.

She's a rigorous planner. She's self-controlled. She's disciplined. And of course, balanced. She thrives off it, and better yet? She loves every second of her fast-paced, busy life.

"I'm rigid in it. I love my routine. It's hard, sure, but I'm really passionate about what I do within athletics but also outside of sport and my career after sports," Bree explains.

"There really is great balance between the two. I'm not just all in on athletics — I'm all in on both of them."
