Bob Geldof gives heartbreaking new insight into the loss of his daughter Peaches.
After the death of his daughter Peaches in April of this year due to a heroin overdose, Sir Bob Geldof has revealed that he feels responsible for the loss of his daughter.
Bob, 63, told an ITV News reporter that he “clearly failed” to help Peaches when she told her father that she had relapsed and begun using the drug again. Peaches underwent 2 years of drug treatment before fatally giving in to her heroin addiction.
Bob said, “You blame yourself. You’re the father who is responsible and clearly failed. Yes, of course you do. For anybody watching, who has a dead kid and you’re a parent. You go back, you go back, you go back, you go back, you go back, you go over, you go over. What could you have done? You do as much as you can.”
He went on to explain that 25-year-old Peaches tried very hard to deal with the pressures she faced in her life, before she was in her home in Kent, while looking after her son Phaedra, 11-months, who was found 17 hours after Peaches last made contact with anyone.
“Course I knew about it and we did more than talk about it, yeah. She was super bright. Too bright. A very errant mind that could focus intensely on a book which she would consume and just absorb it. But the rest was a franticness. She knew what life was supposed to be and God bless her she tried very hard to get there. And she didn’t make it,” the singer explained.
Bob compared the death of Peaches to the loss of his ex-wife, Paula Yates, explaining, "When Paula died and Peaches a few months ago, the ability to try and understand, although it is incomprehensible with the immensity of the grief is there."
“But it takes a long while for it to filter through from the filth to get to the front so you can itemise. I am not there with Peaches yet, it is too soon, all too sudden. Too unexpected,” Bob went on to say.
