By ABC court reporter Candice Prosser.
An Adelaide father who sexually abused his 18-month-old son and shared child pornography was “corrupted” by the internet, a court has heard.
The man in his late 30s, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including indecent assault, and producing and disseminating child exploitation material.
He has been in custody since his arrest in March 2015.
During sentencing submissions in the District Court his lawyer, George Katsaras, told the judge his client had lead a normal, law-abiding life until this offending.
“Unfortunately, Your Honour, through the internet he has become exposed to deviant sexual themes and has been corrupted by this exposure and has developed paraphernalia,” Mr Katsaras said.
“He does understand the serious nature of his offending and he is truly remorseful for his behaviour.”
Mr Katsaras said his client had developed depression while in prison and wanted to rehabilitate himself.
“He has lost everything, he has lost his liberty, his job, his relationship with his partner and his relationship with his son.

You can't be serious that his defence said that this piece of shit 'lost everything' - what the f*ck does he think his son lost!
These lower than dirt individuals have no right to anything.
How dare he and his legal representative say anything about what he has lost or that he has developed depression - too f*cken bad!
If he really understands the nature and effect of his crimes on his baby, then he would not want to go anywhere near him again, for the child's safety. I have zero sympathy for him 'developing depression in prison and being deeply remorseful' - he's a criminal and the punishment he receives should prioritise the safety of his victim and the community above his 'remorse'. I am so sick of judges showing leniency to convicted criminals based on them feeling bad for what they did - of course they feel bad, they were caught!!! The job of the courts is to protect the community, not to take pity on lawbreakers who say sorry. But what's the bet this sick individual gets off lightly. That is just as disgusting as the actual crime.
