A deleted Bird Box scene actually showed the monster's face and uh, no thanks.

It’s that awkward period between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve and we’re all a bit unsure about what to do with ourselves.

But one things for sure – it’s the perfect time to binge some new TV and movies.

After dropping on Netflix just before Christmas began, horror film Bird Box has quickly rose to be one of the most popular original Netflix releases of the year.

And it’s not hard to see why.

Despite being anxiety-inducing and all round terrifying, there’s no denying that Bird Box is a gripping saga.

The film is so suspenseful, it’s even being compared to A Quiet Place.

Based on a post-apocalyptic novel by Josh Malerman of the same name, the film follows Malorie (played by Sandra Bullock) and her two children as they struggle to survive in a world that has been overcome by a devastating wave of mass suicides.

Stalked by “the creatures”, which have the ability to drive humans to take their own lives, Malorie discovers that the remaining survivors must keep their eyes closed at all times and blacken out all windows to avoid succumbing to the power of the monsters.

But as viewers of the film know, the monsters are never seen in the movie.

Although Steven King was reportedly “absolutely riveted” by the creatures, the scene was deleted from the film’s final cut.

According to Bloody Disgusting, the film initially included a scene where Malorie actually met face to face with the creature.

“It was snake-like, and I was like, ‘I don’t want to see it when it first happens. Just bring it into the room. We’ll shoot the scene.’ I turn and he’s like this [growling at me]. It’s making me laugh. It was just a long fat baby,” actress Bullock told the publications.

The film’s director, Susanne Bier, added: “It so easily becomes funny. We actually shot that and spent a lot of energy on, but every time I saw it, I was like this is not going to be tense. It’s just going to be funny.”

Well, it sounds like the film might have been better off without that scene…
