So Bindi Irwin just went on Good Morning America to promote her new collaboration with US SeaWorld.
You know, the place that is currently on top of every person’s hate list since a shocking documentary revealed that they essentially torture their animals for entertainment.
Apparently nobody told Bindi that the water park has seen a massive drop in popularity (and money) since the doco Blackfish outed them as an Orca torture chamber. Take a look at the trailer:
So seemingly unaware Bindi pottered along to GMA with her mum Terri and brother Bob to tell them how excited she was to be continuing in her father’s animal conservation footsteps by working with SeaWorld:
Run little penguins! RUN!
It then took about 30 seconds for her to become the most hated woman in America.
Bindi was hit with a tidal wave of outrage on social media:
There’s already a Change.org petition imploring Bindi to reconsider. Someone should probably have kept up to date with their animal conservation documentaries…
Here’s Bindi in less controversial times:

Oops the "backlash" what there was of it, lasted about 2 weeks. Guess what? Bindi is still talking conservation, still being a good role model for kids, still being kind and thoughtful even to those who have been downright mean in their criticism of her. Oh and oops, just for the record Steve Irwin spoke very positively of people having and encounter with dolphins at SeaWorld just at the end of the Crocodile Hunter "Steve's Story. So, no, Bindi didn't "sell out" or do something that would make her Dad ashamed. She took an opportunity to reach thousands of kids with simple, thoughtful conservation messages in a forum Steve spoke well of in his lifetime.
Like Steve Irwin, at the time when he spoke about Sea World on Steve's Story, I to thought the Sea World was not bad thing. I became educated later about the theme park. Steve abhorred circuses because he learned of how the animals were mistreated, used for human entertainment and profit. If Steve were here with us he to would have become educated about Sea World and how it is truly a circus. Sea World is not conservation minded. Steve's reasoning at the time was that Sea World was a place to go to have a close up experience with Orcas.
I really hope people don't start personally attacking her. It's pretty likely that she isn't aware of what they're doing. She is quite young, and despite where her mother's from, she's Australian. She may not have seen or heard about the documentary. She's almost certainly trying to do some good in the world.
