What's in store for Offspring's Billie and Mick in season six.

The stars behind Offspring couple Billie and Mick have offered fans a look into the roots of their relationship and a taste of the upcoming season.

Actors Kat Stewart and Eddie Perfect told news.com.au it was their screw up of a sex scene that earned them the role of the real yet not raunchy couple.

“We were so awkward that they just started writing us for comedy instead,” Stewart said.

“They were never going to get that out of us and it’s pretty much held.

“Dave (Whitley, Stewart’s husband) and Lucy (Cochran, Perfect’s wife) have got nothing to worry about — Eddie’s in safe hands with me.”

We can all breathe easy though, because Billie and Mick are still together, according to Stewart.

The series returns on Wednesday June 29 with 18 months having passed since we last saw the Proudman clan.

Stewart previously told The Daily Telegraph her character had been touring with Mick in the implied time between seasons.

"She's been touring with Mick for the past 18 months and she's had a really good time, but there’s that sense she’s ready to put down roots," she said.

"There's something she says in the first episode which is that she wants a life of her own. And I was thinking about it, she was helping Jimmy run a restaurant, helping Nina raise a daughter, helping her dad run a real estate business, helping Mick with his tour. She hasn’t really done her own thing. It’s a really big driver for Billie this series to find her own way.”

Stewart said the drama of season five would hopefully ensure a stronger future for the comedic couple.

"It would be terrible to break them up after the way they got together at the end of season five," Stewart said.

"I love their relationship because it's playful. They're not a glamorous, windswept, romanticised version of marriage. They're real people — well, they’re like real people to me!”

But trailers for the new season suggest another tragedy ahead for the Proudman family in the upcoming season.

Network Ten's head of drama Rick Maier has said fans should expect a roller coaster of emotion.

"We'll be breaking out the chocolate and the tissues for a season of high romance, low comedy and plenty of sexy time," Maier told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Stewart and Perfect said they signed on for season six without even knowing what was in store for Billie and Mick.

Let's hope their faith in the writers is well placed.
