Bill Paxton, actor in 'Titanic' and Twister', dies aged 61.

Hollywood actor Bill Paxton has passed away at age 61.

His family confirmed the sad news in a statement released shortly after his death, adding that the beloved actor died due to complications from surgery.

“It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away,” a family representative said in the statement.

“A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker.

"Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable. We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father."

The actor is one of the most recognisable faces in the business, having starred in blockbuster films like Titanic, Apollo 13, The Terminator and Weird Science. He also played storm chaser Bill 'The Extreme' Harding in the 1996 film Twister.

The 61-year-old also starred in HBO series Big Love, for which he was nominated for the Emmy award for Best Actor.

Paxton's final big screen role, The Circle, is currently in post-production and also stars Emma Watson and Tom Hanks.

Many of Paxton's co-stars have already posted loving tributes to the star upon hearing of the actor's sudden death.

The actor is survived by his wife of 30 years, Louise Newbury, and his two children, James and Lydia.

Gosh, I'm so sad to hear that Bill has died. Always a favourite of James Cameron, I've watched him onscreen in 'Aliens' and 'True Lies' more times than I can count.
