Big Brother Australiais back, pals, and we’re damn grateful because this global pandemic thing has really thrown a spanner into our usual reality TV schedules.
One episode in, we’re not sure if we… love it, hate it or just need some time to get used to the very unfamiliar new format.
The series has been pre-recorded which makes it hard to understand… how it will… work. It will run for seven weeks on three nights a week – Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays – giving us plenty of time to watch the new contestants live, eat and share their secrets on national television. We can only hope it gets more juicy.
Big Brother Australia – A whole new game begins. Post continues below video.
The series will end with a live finale, when Australia will get an opportunity to vote.
So… how did we react to the first episode? Well, it was a bit of a mixed bag.
Just finished watching #BBAU & it completely lacked atmosphere! Housemates arrival & that eviction was so boring … and why the hell are those up for eviction voting?! As a huge #BigBrother fan I’ll give it a go but not off to a great start Australia! Ps Allan needs to go ????????♂️

Watching the first episode of #BBAU! I love the vibe & production. I love this first challenge for Kieren but is it going to backfire on him????

What I understand so far is that they entered the house. Then they talked and when it was time to sleep Daniel snored too much and woke the participants. #BBAU

WE ARE NOT LETTING THIS GUY WIN THIS SEASON #bbau #BigBrotherAU https://t.co/VmmX7qkOam

#BBAU ’s trope of casting entertainer types/people with a public profile is and has been their downfall for the over 10 years. They aren’t grounded people, they aren’t relatable and it feels seriously disconnected from what originally made this show good all those years ago

My wife & I have been hyping our kids up for weeks about @bigbrother_au. Their comment tonight was “is that it?”. No kids, that isn’t the #bbau were were expecting… It was so rushed and rigid. Where is the heart & soul? The humour? It felt so cold and lifeless.

One of the fundamental big brother rules was no speaking of nominations. That was the best part. They’ve ruined Christmas #BBAU

I do love the fact they are kind of pretending like this show is actually live….fake news is so hot these days #BBAU

Devastating that the new #BigBrotherAU is basically 12 mundane/“vanilla” housemates participating in a pre-rehearsed, drama-free game of backyard “Survivor.” The biggest problem for #BBAU? That it used to be iconic. Unfortunately, no matter what, it’ll never regain its glory.

Seeing a lot of random old #BigBrotherAU contestants names appearing on twitter… glad you’re all alive #BBAU

Angela & Big Brother fighting over the house has made my night ???? #BBAU #BigBrotherAU

It went a little quick though and missing the authenticity of it. However I wouldn’t miss an episode ???? #BBAU #BigBrotherAU

“Dude I’ve never seen you looked so cooked” ALLEN, YOU HAVE KNOWN KIERAN FOR 3 DAYS (AT THIS POINT), CALM DOWN #bbau

Still don’t understand why people want to see the old version that cancelled TWICE.. #BBAU pic.twitter.com/C52jJPLo4E

So, @bigbrother_au has just become @Survivor_AU in a modern house with a robot talking to housemates?
Ok. #BigBrother #BigBrother2020 #BBAU pic.twitter.com/LMmVLGxQSc

I have missed the sheer exhilaration of being shady to reality tv contestants
So, even though there are teething issues
I reckon I’ll enjoy #BBAU
