'I'm a beauty editor. Here are 6 products I'm ditching for winter – and 6 I'm adding.'

It's hard to care about a lot of things when winter rolls around. The chilly weather and the darker mornings and evenings make me want to do exactly 95 per cent less when it comes to... everything. Including my beauty routine.

But because I don't want to risk my skin turning into actual tree bark, I put some effort into switching up my routine for products that will go the extra mile.

Watch: Before we get into it, remember that time I put lube on my face? I do. Post continues below.

Because as someone who tries hundreds of products on the regular (it's a real job, I promise), there are a few things I'm leaving behind in winter.

Wanna find out what they are? Course you do! We all do. Keep scrolling to find out the products I'm ditching — and the ones I'm swapping in.

Swapping out: Gel and foaming cleansers

An obvious one, I know — but I always tend to swap out any gel or foaming cleansers for a cream or oil formula.

For me, I find that's it's not only gentler on my skin but most of these formulas come with added moisturising benefits that'll help protect the all-important skin barrier.

I'm currently using formulas such as: La Roche-Posay Toleriane Dermo-Cleanser, $29.95 and Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Oil Cleanser Makeup Remover for Sensitive Skin, $28.99.

As someone who really excels in having a dry face, I tend to lean towards thicker, richer moisturisers anyway — especially at night.

But as the days get chillier, out go the lightweight gel formulas, and in come the thick, occlusive, nourishing face creams to help soothe and strengthen my skin.

A couple of my faves right now? Go-To Very Luxe Face Cream, $79 and Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentré, $38.99.

Cream EVERYTHING, you guys. I'm more of a cream makeup gal for the most part— but when it comes to winter I go ham. I usually ditch all powdered makeup, including eye makeup.

As someone with sensitive eczema-prone skin, my eyes are one of the areas that tend to flare up in dry, flaky patches — making eyeshadow very hard to wear. For this reason, creamier stick formulas or pots are usually more up my alley.

My go-to products for a creamy makeup look is the Charlotte Tilbury Quick & Easy Makeup in Super Chic, $99 – it's a little kit that includes an eye, lip and cheek, and highlighter wand.

Swapping out: Lighter, airy scents

Another thing I love to do is play around with my scents as the seasons change. While I love a light, fresh and crisp scent (you have my heart, Ouai North Bondi), switching it up to warm, woody notes in winter is my favourite way to experiment with different scents.

There are SO many goodies to choose from – but some of my (bougie) winter faves include Maison Margiela’s By the Fireplace, $105 for 30ml, Byredo Slow Dance, $266 for 50ml and Ellis Brooklyn APRÉS Eau De Parfum, $51 for 10ml.

Swapping out: Buzzy new shampoos and conditioners.

Swapping in: Scalp-focused hair care.

As soon as winter hits, my scalp tends to just... go to s**t. It gets all flaky, gross and annoying. So, now is the time I really focus on using treatments that are going to target any redness, irritation and itchiness.

That's why I tend to veer away from using too many new haircare products (which can be hard when it's literally your job to test new launches!).

I'm currently using Selsun Gold Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Treatment, $16.39, to get my scalp under control. It's very unsexy, I know, but I swear it's the only thing that works for me.

Swapping out: Lip balms

Swapping in: Overnight lip masks and treatments

I have dry lips pretty much... always. But as the weather gets chillier and the wind ramps up, my lips like to literally fall off my face. For this reason I ramp it up on the lip care front and introduce thicker masks and treatments into my routine.

These kinds of formulas help lock in hydration and build a seal of moisture. I'll whack on a thick layer at night and also pop it on throughout the day, for smoother more hydrated lips.

My pick: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, $31.
