Five podcasts that will get your kids away from screens.

On the weekend, screen time can be a really tempting option to keep your kids entertained.

Especially when it’s cold.

And you don’t wanna go to the park. But there is on other thing they can do. And we guarantee they’ll love it. Podcasts.

Here are five of our favourites. They’re kid friendly, they’re brilliant, and we reckon you’ll love ’em too.

Enjoy.

Sesame Street

While we all know and love the TV show, did you know Sesame Street also has a podcast? Each week they release a short video featuring all the adorable friends we’re familiar with from the show. New episodes drop every Monday, and it’s one of the most popular podcasts going around.

You can download it here.

Radio Rookies from WNYC.

This is the perfect podcast for tweens, teens and everything in between. In every episode New York City teenagers share snap shots of their lives their communities and their world with listeners.  Like - what is it like to live with Sickle Cell Anaemia? What it’s like to be a gay teen in Harlem? What is it like to the U.S from Guyana without your mum by your side?

It's for teens, by teens and about the challenges of teen life. And it's brilliant. You can find it here.

This Glorious Mess.

This is not the place for "perfect parents". This is a weekly look at parenting as it truly is - confusing, exhausting, inspiring, completely full of surprises and very messy. Join Andrew Daddo, broadcaster, author of children's books and father of three, and Holly Wainwright, editor, writer and mother of two, as they unpack what parents are really talking about. From toddlers to teenagers, it's all the disasters and delights of parenting, made real.

Book Club for Kids.

This podcast is very, very charming. Each week, young readers meet up to discuss a book, are joined by celebrities who read a story, and they answer listener questions each week. The show is hosted by Kitty Felde, and award winning journalist and author.

It has been around since 2000, after starting out as a radio show, and you can download episodes here.

Our new app makes listening to all of the Mamamia podcasts easy. (Post continues after video.)

Ted talks for kids.

While we might all know and love the adult TED talks, these are especially tailored for the little people in your life. Some of the world's leading thinkers and doers share their ideas worth spreading, from marine biologist and explorer-photographer David Gruber who discovered as surprising new range of sea creatures that glow in many colours in the ocean's dim blue light. To poet Billy Collins imagining the inner lives of two very different companions and explores what must our dogs be thinking when they look at us? The topics are so expansive and diverse, you will be sure to find something both you and your kids can enjoy. See more here.
