‘I bought the $30 Kmart jeans going viral on TikTok and yes, they are THAT good.’

Jeans shopping is... the very worst. That's why I've been wearing the same pair of Cotton On Mum Jeans for approximately the past four years of my life (and bless them, they haven't fallen apart yet).

But I have had to face the truth recently: there's cute-faded-in-a-fashion-way jeans. And then there's should-be-relegated-to-housework-faded jeans. And my favourite pair are in the latter category, which is exactly why I found myself embarking on one of my least favourite tasks recently.

And that, friends, is how I ended up strolling through the jeans section of my local Kmart on a recent Saturday (I was just there for cheap homewares, I swear), with little expectation and even lower hope.

Until a pair of jeans caught my eye.

They looked... thicker than the others. Stronger. As if they might just support me through the tough times. Like a good friend. A dependable buddy.

They were a deeper, richer, blacker black than the others. And they had one pair in my size (14).

Meant. To Be.

Now, I'd heard good things about Kmart jeans in the past, and we already know that price doesn't necessarily equal quality (although, if you do want to fork out for $300 jeans, there's always #girlmath to help you with that). Plus, this particular style of Kmart jeans just happened to be the same ones that have been going viral on TikTok, and TikTokkers just don't get this stuff wrong. Ya know? I've seen them described as "literally magic", "the best jeans I've ever bought", and who am I to argue with reviews like that?

So off I trotted to the fitting room, Kmart jeans slung over my arm, hope bubbling away inside but honestly not really expecting great things. I've been burnt so many times before and I know the pain of getting your hopes up only to have them torn to shreds in a badly lit cubicle.

With some wiggling and the requisite jumping routine (I'm not the only one who does this, right?) to slide those babies over my butt, we got there.

And we... zipped up.

That's usually where things go wrong for me – I'll get them up over my hips, but not DONE up, so I'm sure you can imagine my pure joy at having slid into these bad boys first try.

What's so damn special about these jeans is the 'shapewear' design. The Kmart Shapewear Jeans have a thick band of elastic around the waist that just hugs in all the best places. The level of stretch is perfection – enough to feel held (who needs a boyfriend?), but also enough give to be able to move.

They look like standing jeans, but I can comfortably sit at my desk all day in them and not be desperate to rip them off my body the second I get home from work. The fabric is soft but sturdy, and you guys, I don't want to brag, but my butt looks pretty phenomenal.

The leg length is perfect for me (I'm a 168cm-tall girlie, if you're wondering how they'll fit on your legs), sitting at that Goldilocks spot on the ankle – not too long, not too short, juuuuuust right. They're cute with a sneaker, a sandal or a heel. Perfect with a tucked in tee or a nice top. They're everything I want a jean to be.

So I'm calling it. Right here, right now. It has happened

I've found the holy grail of jeans.

And they were 30 BUCKS.

Now excuse me while I go and buy 50 more pairs.
