There’s so much to love, and to fear, about Hereditary.

Described as 'the scariest film of the year' amid its release in 2018, the movie contains a number of bloodcurdling scenes that will definitely haunt your dreams for nights after watching it.

The film follows Annie Graham (played by Toni Collette), a woman with a complicated family past who suffers a series of horrific family losses, before an ancient evil takes over her home and begins to destroy her family one by one.

Be warned. It's a little disturbing.

Insidious (Stan)

When it comes to Insidious, the original is undoubtedly the best.

The movie, released in 2010, follows the story of the Lambert family. After settling into their new home, Josh and Renai's son Dalton is exploring the attic when he falls from a ladder and hits his head. The next day, Josh and Renai discover that Dalton is in a coma – and doctors can't find an explanation.

In search of help for their son, Josh and Renai encounter everything from ghosts to a red-faced demon and it's all a little bit... creepy.

Yeah, NOPE.

Cabin in the Woods, which was released in 2012, is another fan favourite on Netflix.

Starring Kristen Connolly and Chris Hemsworth, the movie follows a group of five friends who go for a break at a secluded cabin.

While relaxing at the cabin, which is cut off from the rest of the outside world, the group soon discover the truth behind the isolated cabin in the woods: They've accidentally become involved in a ritual sacrifice.

Stephen King's first novel, Carrie, has been adapted for film a number of times.

But for most fans, it's the original 1976 version of the horror film – which is available on streaming service Stan – that's often favoured the most. After all, the 1976 adaption is often regarded as one of the greatest horror films of all time.

In case you haven't seen it, Carrie follows a shy teenager who is mercilessly bullied and mocked at school.

What Carrie's classmates don't know, however, is that the 16-year-old possesses telekinetic powers.

As you may have guessed, all hell soon breaks loose at the senior prom when one prank against Carrie goes too far.

The Canadian supernatural drama, which is based on Stephen King and Joe Hill's novella of the same name, follows a brother and sister duo as they venture into a vast field of – you guessed it – tall grass.

After entering the grass, the siblings soon discover that there may be no way out.

Yep, we’ll definitely pass on watching this one alone.

If you're claustrophobic, we suggest you avoid watching The Descent...

Seriously, it will scar you for life.

The horror film, which was released in 2005, follows six women into a dark, enclosed cave system hidden deep within the woods.

As you might expect, the women soon become trapped as they struggle to hide from the creepy humanoid creatures that are lurking within the caves.

Expect jump scares – and lots of them.

Eli (Netflix)

Eli, which was released on Netflix earlier this month, follows the story of an 11-year-old boy with a debilitating illness.

The rare disease, which causes severe allergic reactions to the outdoors, means Eli must live his life in protective gear.

Hoping to relieve their son's condition, Eli's parents Rose and Paul take him to a secluded medical facility.

Before long, however, Eli begins to experience supernatural phenomena in the house while also enduring excruciatingly painful treatments.

Yikes.

“Do you like scary movies?”

Cult classic slasher movie Scream was a box office smash when it was released in 1996.

Starring Neve Campbell, Drew BarrymoreCourtney Cox and David Arquette, the movie depicted a reign of terror carried out by a masked killer named Ghostface.

Set in the fictional town of Woodsboro, California, the movie follows Ghostface as they kill off a group of horror-movie-loving teenagers, one by one.

While the plot of the movie sounds a little far-fetched, it's actually based on a true life story.

Danny Rolling is the serial killer who inspired the 1996 horror film Scream. Listen to True Crime Conversations below.
