As someone who has worked in the beauty space for a while now, one of the most common questions I get asked is: "how do I brighten my under the eyes?"
Because while there are many, many different products out there for dark circles, the search to find the right one can feel stupidly tricky. You want something that’s light enough to look natural, but strong enough to actually target tired-looking under eyes without creasing, flaking and all that other garbage.
The good news is there are some really great makeup formulas out there that can do all of these things plus more — you've just gotta do a little digging to find them.
But that's why you have You Beauty podcast.

Because on a recent episode of Spendy Savey, our very own Kelly McCarren shared her favourite product for brighter under eyes — and we just about clambered over each other to snatch one up for ourselves.
Wanna know what it is? Sorry, silly question.
It's Smashbox Smashbox x Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector, $55.
Yes! A colour-corrector!

"My spendy is the best product I have ever used on my under eyes," said Kelly, "It is so good. Every day that I do nice makeup, it's [thanks to] this product."
"I'm pretty sure Becca don't exist anymore but they've done a collaboration with Smashbox for this product. It's the under eye brightening corrector. Oh, my goodness."
On the website, it's described as "a fan-favourite, brightening colour corrector."
In case you're not across what a colour corrector actually... is... it's basically a makeup product that can be used to neutralise and balance out skin discolouration (like dark circles) for a more even skin tone.
Infused with peach and apricot-toned colour correctors, as well as light-reflecting illuminators, this particular product promises to do just that and brighten the appearance of dark circles. It's also formulated with vitamin E, which claims to smooth the skin around the eyes and create an even base for concealer.
Here's what it looks like:
On the subject of where and how to use it in your makeup routine, Kelly explained, "You need to put it on before foundation. I think there's four different shades: fair, medium, medium and dark. It's an under eye corrector so it's not your skin tone because it's a colour corrector, not a concealer."
"You will also only need the tiniest little bit. I was talking about it on my Instagram not long ago and I was showing how it's literally magic. It just erases that deep, dark shallowness that makes you look so tired."
As Kelly shared, you just want to use the smallest amount (a chia seed-sized amount) mostly on the inner corner on your under eye where the darkness is most visible.
"It's $55 and it will last you the rest of your life," she said.
"I use it on my fingers. So, I get it out and then I press it in with my fingers because they're nice and warm. I really buff it out so that it's blended into my skin."
Afterwards, she said she then does the rest of her base makeup — concealer, foundation, etc.
"It's the most flawless under eye makeup I've ever had."
And okay, but why haven't I tried this yet??
With an impressive four-and-a-half stars on Mecca, Kelly isn't the only one who says it's a serious winner.
One five-star review reads: "There is no product that will ever hide my dark circles, but I want to at least look less tired. This product does exactly what it says it will — brightens and nourishes. It works well for me when I use my fingers to pat it into freshly moisturised skin. The product also tends to stay better throughout the day when I've applied it right after moisturiser and sunscreen. It only fades a bit, and by the end of the day doesn't dry my under eyes the way other colour correctors/brighteners have. I'm really happy with this product and will be using it every day!"
We love when makeup products do what they say they're going to do!
So, there you have it. If you're someone who struggles with dark under eyes and you've been on the hunt for a good product that *actually* works when it comes to cancelling tired eyes, this just might be your new Holy Grail.
Ya welcome.
