'I'm calling it, this is the one blazer you need to add to your wardrobe.'

Almost every outfit can be improved with a blazer. When you find a really good one, it becomes one of those pieces you wonder how you ever got dressed without.

But if you're looking at that double breasted blazer with the buttons you bought a few years ago and wondering why it just doesn't feel right, or you're struggling to style it with anything else in your wardrobe, it's probably become a bit dated.

There, I said it.

As a fashion writer, I've heard a pervasive myth peddled over the years that once you find the "perfect blazer" and add it to your "capsule wardrobe", you'll never need to buy another.

But it's just that — a myth. There's no such thing as a forever wardrobe classic; your staple pieces need to be updated eventually too.

Are you holding onto it because it's the *perfect* blazer, or do you have lots of lovely memories of that time when it was?

RIP, beloved jacket. You two had some good moments together.

But what blazer might you want to invest in now, to get you through the rest of 2024?

The shape you're likely seeing everywhere is the boxy single-breasted blazer. It's deliberately oversized and square through the shoulders and hips, but although it's got a bit of that '80s energy, it's not comical. It's still streamlined enough to feel wearable for everyday, whether your day consists of going to an office or going out to lunch.

And this particular cut is available in so many shades and price points, you can choose the one that complements your style and budget best.

Brown boxy blazers.

If you're not sure where to start, consider a brown blazer for an immediate closet refresh. Where a black blazer says business, a brown one says casual polish. Hues of taupe, caramel and chocolate are on-trend, but don't read as too "trendy" — they'll blend right in with your wardrobe,
