Good morning lovely Mamamia readers.
I know most of you are probably familiar with the format for Best and Worst of the week but I’m going to go over it anyway.
Welcome to Best and Worst.
This is my face. This is the space where we can silently (by silent I mean voice it to the interwebs) curse that flatmate who took too long in the shower this morning or celebrate the fact that it’s the Friday before Australia Day. Hello, three day weekend.
Let me start things off.
Best
My younger brother got into university!
He had the official confirmation this week and I may have yelped down the phone when he told me. He’ll be heading off at the end of February leaving Mum with an empty nest.
So proud of you, Matt. You’re going to change the world.
Worst
I can’t shake all the terrible gun-related news I’ve been hearing from America this week. First it was the 5-year-old that shot their sibling, then the 2-year-old that accidentally shot themselves. It’s gut-wrenching and absolutely horrific, something needs to change.
So that’s what’s been on my mind this week, how about you? Let us know in the comments.

Worst - Thought I'd take our two country kids on a 2 day trip to the city to finish off the end of the school holidays while my husband was on a fishing trip. At the end of day 1, which was very loooooong, I quickly dragged the kids to the supermarket to get some supplies for breakfast the next day. Mr 3 1/2 had a major meltdown at the poorly staffed checkout and instead of silence, sympathy or even help I received a tongue bashing from an old man telling me how I should box my son around the ears and teach him a real lesson. I didn't say anything back! I'm now stewing on that, I wanted to tell him that he's not normally like that, it's the end of a fun filled 14 hour day, it's past his bed time, he hadn't seen his dad for 3 days, he's so far out of routine its not funny but most of all he's normally the most beautiful, funny, entertaining, loving little guy (I'm biased obviously), but you know what, I didn't have to explain myself or my sons behavior. I also didn't say anything because I didn't trust myself to say anything respectful back to him. And I'm still stewing! It really took the shine off a great mini trip.
Best is: I got my hair dyed with brown foils. We were not sure how I would go with them as I have a contact allergy to brown hair dye but the foils seem to have done the trick and now I have low maintenance hair that the roots match the rest of my hair.
Worst: reading about 2 children dying this week due to guns being stored stupidly and obviously without the safety's on.
