Georgia Love’s father, Christopher, has slammed the Daily Mail for “gutter trash ‘journalism'” reporting on his wife Belinda’s funeral.
Belinda Love died last Saturday after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was farewelled by her friends and family at a private memorial service on Friday.
The Daily Mail was one of few news outlets that covered the sad day — a decision that Christopher Love said was “disrespectful” in a scathing comment he wrote on the publication’s post about the funeral on Facebook.
Dr Love pointed out the news website’s report contained several inaccuracies, including that his wife’s name was wrong as well as the location of the service.
"If they were disrespectful enough to invade our privacy during a memorial service for my beautiful wife, you would think that these so-called journalists could get her name right, know where in Melbourne the service was (certainly not a church in Footscray)," Dr Love wrote.
"(You'd think they would) work out that someone getting into the left hand door of a car in Australia is not getting into the driver' seat, understand that guests were asked to wear light bright colours to reflect my late wife's personality and place a distasteful picture of a coffin next to a picture of Georgia, when the family deliberately felt intimidated to accompany the coffin for fear of exactly this type of gutter trash "journalism"."
The father concluded by criticising the website as a whole.
"Everyone should think long and hard about how factual anything they read published by DM is," he wrote.
While the article has now been corrected, it is understood Georgia's mother was wrongly named 'Bianca' in some sections.
Georgia thanked The Bachelorette fans for their support in a post to Instagram on Thursday.
“Thank you to every single person who has shared even a single thought for me and my family,” the 28-year-old wrote.
Mamamia has chosen not to link to the Daily Mail article out of respect for the Love family at this difficult time.
Georgia's mother died shortly after her relationship with Lee Elliot, 35, became public.
