Bebe Rexha, Sarah Brady and the public cancellation of 'toxic' men.

Just over a week after Sarah Brady released some alleged text messages from her ex-boyfriend Jonah Hill, Bebe Rexha has done the same.

Over the weekend, the singer posted what appeared to be a text from her boyfriend of three years, cinematographer Keyan Safyari, on her Instagram Story, before later deleting it.

In the message, Safyari allegedly comments on her weight.

"I never said you weren't beautiful and I never said I didn't love you. In fact, I said how beautiful you are and how much I loved you," the text reads.

"But I always said I would be honest with you and your face was changing so I told you it was… that was the conversation we were having and you asked. Because I care, would you rather I lied to you?

"You gained 35 pounds obviously you gained weight and your face changes? Should I just pretend it didn’t happen and that it’s ok? Come on I gained three pounds and you call me chubbs and fat. Doesn’t mean you don’t love me."

The text also suggests Rexha and Safyari may have broken up following the conversation.

"If you’re trying to find reasons to break up this makes sense… but it’s not the real reason. If you’re unhappy with me/yourself/with life and don’t see a future with us, then that’s ok, and that’s the reason.

"Don’t use something like that to weaponise your anger or anxiety or any insecurity you may have. You know I always found you to be beautiful and loved you no matter what."

Rexha didn’t provide any context or commentary, nor did she confirm it came from Safyari.

The 'I'm Good' singer has spoken publicly about struggling with her body image in the past, especially in the last few months.

She recently shared that she has been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Weight gain is one of the main symptoms and Rexha has spoken publicly about this.

Back in April, the singer admitted she found it "upsetting" to see that 'Bebe Rexha weight' was a trending search on TikTok.

"Seeing that search bar is so upsetting," she wrote on Twitter. "I’m not mad 'cause it's true. I did gain weight. But it just sucks."

Following the sharing of the text message, fans heavily defended Rexha, arguing that Safyari was seemingly being "cruel" under the guise of being honest.

And while it's understandable, as it's never okay to comment on someone else's weight, should we really be sharing private messages publicly?

Especially when, in Rexha's case, she has 10 million followers to see it.

"It’s gross to post your ex’s private texts unless you have a really solid reason to do so, and this holds true even if your ex was a thin-skinned manipulative weasel," New Yorker journalist Emily Nussbaum tweeted in relation to Sarah Brady's leaked Jonah Hill messages.

"That used to be a given, but it clearly isn’t anymore."

Rexha's decision to share the message comes a little more than a week after Jonah Hill's ex-girlfriend Sarah Brady shared similar screenshots of messages she allegedly received from the actor during their relationship, labelling him "emotionally abusive".

The couple dated for a year, from 2021 to 2022.

"This is a warning to all girls. If your partner is talking to you like this, make an exit plan," she wrote alongside the text screenshots.

The alleged texts seemed to show controlling behaviour on Hill's part in response to Brady – a surfer – posting photos of herself wearing swimwear.

He also allegedly repeatedly mentioned his 'boundaries' with regards to how he expected his girlfriend to behave.

After posting the initial texts, Brady responded to some of her critics, sharing a comment she wrote back to on Instagram after someone accuse her of trying to 'cancel' her ex-boyfriend, even though their relationship started back in 2021.

The surfing instructor replied that she shared the screenshots because people often bring up her famous ex to her.

"I'm tired of being polite about it," she wrote.

In a text exchange with her mother that she also shared on her Instagram Stories, Brady went on to elaborate on this point.

"His name would always be tied to mine for the rest of my life no matter what. I'd rather it be tied to mine with the truth than without," she wrote.

"Without [it] I would feel like I have to continue [to] answer questions about him politely for the rest of my life and I don't want to do that anymore.

"At this point, there's no going back. I'm not trying to slander someone's reputation. I'm literally sharing their own words."

Neither Hill nor Safyari has responded to the leaked messages.
