"He just wanted air time": Bachelor In Paradise's Rachael on the aftermath of her date with Thomas.

They had an amazing date together, but that’s about as far as things got for Rachael and Thomas on Bachelor In Paradise.

Speaking to Mamamia, Rachael says the 31-year-old Canadian did a complete U-turn on her and turned into a completely different person after their date.

“I wish I hadn’t gone on that date with Thomas,” she says.

“After our date, he was a different person. He really went very, very quiet on me. He almost didn’t want to hang out with me. I’m thinking, ‘Why have you just gone from showing me you’re quite interested on the date, and now you’re just this frosty person?'”

And she says she’s not entirely convinced he had the right intentions going into the show.

“Now, looking back, I’m like, ‘Der, Rachael. He just wanted to get air time,'” she admits.

Despite trying to talk to him after their date though, to figure out where it all went wrong, Rachael, 33, got the impression Thomas was already done with her.

“He just didn’t want to hang out with me. Trying to have a conversation with him was like getting blood out of a stone. It was like, ‘What is wrong with you?'” she says.

“I started to question a lot of things. It didn’t make any sense to me.”

It was only right before he left the show that Thomas finally sat Rachael down for a chat – and then tried to gaslight her.

“We sat down on the steps right before he left, and he said, ‘I feel like you changed after our date,'” she says.

“I was really gobsmacked. I didn’t really know what was happening. I was like, ‘Are you reading a script right now, because that’s just not what happened!'”

And they say Canadians are supposed to be nice.

“Oh, do they? I’ve never heard that,” laughs Rachael.

Despite having a moment though, Rachael says she never thought Thomas was the right one for her.

“No. That is a big no,” she says.

Ultimately, she thinks she came into the game a little too late.

“I feel like it would have been a lot better if I’d entered the show earlier. I feel like there would have been a lot more options,” she says.

“Maybe there would have been guys from Australia instead of only internationals left, which is obviously pretty tricky to get into a relationship with someone who is obviously on the other side of the world. It definitely would have been a completely different outcome for me.”

Someone who Rachael did feel a genuine connection with though was Apollo, 25.

“Apollo and I hung out quite a bit, and he’s just so funny! He’s just so funny and caring and very attentive. He’s just got such a good heart, and they’re beautiful qualities,” she says.

Unfortunately he was already kind of seeing Simone, 26, by the time she arrived in Fiji, and she wanted to “respect” that.

“There wasn’t anyone else who I really connected with. It was only really Apollo,” continues Rachael.

“[But] it wasn’t even something I was really even thinking about, going down that track to break up a couple. That’s not me.”
