The RAAF become a breastfeeding-friendly workplace.

The Australian Breastfeeding Association has accredited the Royal Australian Air Force as a breastfeeding-friendly workplace. This makes it the worlds first military organisation to become breastfeeding- friendly.

The process of gaining accreditation was a 3 year process, and will be used to support the over 4000 female staff at the RAAF.

Vice President of the Australian Breastfeeding Association, Susan Day, said, “it’s much better for an employer to invest in family friendly practices and retain valuable employees,” by implementing female-friendly policies such as this.

Australians have been instructed to leave the Gaza Strip.

The Australian Embassy in Tel Aviv has organised for an assisted departure for Australians in Gaza, and all Australians wanting to leave the region have been instructed to contact the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade as soon as possible.

It has been reported that 130 deaths or more have occurred since the violence in the region escalated five days ago.

“The retaliatory acts from both sides that have led to civilian deaths and injuries are deeply regrettable, and I call on all parties to exercise restraint and do everything necessary to avoid a further escalation of violence,” Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has said.

Experts weigh in on the benefits of kids repeating a grade at school.

It has been revealed that more than 15,000 primary school aged students have repeated a grade in the past four years, with 7000 from those repeating kindergarten. In the majority of cases, this is due to parental concerns about their child’s academic and social development.

The OECD has said each year a student repeats cost their parents and taxpayers around $50,000, when delayed entry into the workforce is taken into account.

Dr Helen McGrath, a leading Australian education and psychology researcher, told Fairfax, parents needed to be careful about holding their children back a year. “You need to be fairly sure that you’re prepared for the possibility that it may in fact set the child back,” she said.

A key suspect in the assault of a baby has been denied bail.

A man- whose man cannot be revealed due to court non-publication orders- has been refused bail after accusations he caused serious injuries to a nine-month-old boy in a Western Sydney home.

Police documents reveal the 31-year-old-man was at home with the nine-month-old boy when he suffered from severe head injuries. He was arrested over causing grievous bodily harm with the intent to do so.

He will face Penrith Local Court on Friday.

Footage emerges of baby saved from rubble in Syria.

A video on Twitter has emerged of a baby being rescued from rubble in the war-torn Syrian city of Aleppo.

The baby girl can be seen crying, as her dust covered body is carefully freed by rescue teams.

“After 16 hours working under difficult conditions, the civil defence in Ansari was able to rescue a baby girl barely two months old as well as her mother who was injured,” the video commentary said.

Brian Taylor takes commentary break following ‘big poofter’ slur.

3AW radio commentator Brian Taylor, has stood down from commenting the Collingwood vs Essendon game on radio today. The decision follows his use of a homophobic slur used about Geelong player Harry Taylor on Channel 7 yesterday.

Brian Taylor said he called the player and apologised for calling him a “big poofter”.

He added to viewers and fan that: “my apology of last night stands unequivocally”.

Brian Taylor will resume commentating from next week, and will undergo counselling over the slur as per the request of Channel 7.

Harry Taylor has said he has accepted the apology.
