Sarah Paino was pregnant when she died in a car crash. Her baby Caleb survived.

Last year, Daniel Stirling’s life was ripped apart.

In January his heavily pregnant partner Sarah Paino, 24, was killed in a Hobart car crash caused by teens driving a stolen car.

Miraculously, their son Caleb survived.

Now, 18 months on, the young father has spoken to Channel Seven’s Sunday Night about what life is like raising the little boy, and his brother, without Sarah.

Unsurprisingly to any single parent, Daniel described his day-to-day as "full on".

"It's a very full-on gig. It's a full-time gig," the father-of-two tells Sunday Night's Mel Doyle in a preview of the interview, which will air on Sunday at 8.30pm.

"But I wouldn't change it for the world.

"I mean I would," he adds quickly, "as such, I'd have Sarah back in a heartbeat. But I'm pushing on. I'm doing the best I can."

On January 22, 2016, 32-week-pregnant Sarah was driving her toddler son Jordan when their car was struck by a hooning teenager, who was later sentenced to five years jail for manslaughter.

Sarah was rushed to rushed to hospital and there pronounced dead, but Caleb was able to be delivered via an emergency c-section, weighing just 2.5kg.

In the wake of the tragedy, Sarah's mother Jane Paino said Caleb and his brother, Jordan, who received only minor injuries in the crash, were the only things that kept her going.

"If it wasn’t for Jordan and the new baby, I don’t think I would be able to carry on," she told News Limited.

"Sarah has left behind part of herself for us all to look after and remember her by."

In the interview Daniel gave a month after his partner was killed, he told Sunday Night Caleb was "an image" of Sarah, who he missed dearly.

"I loved her, still do," he said.

"I don’t think I’m going to find anyone that will come close to her. I don’t think I really want to."

You can catch the full interview with Daniel Stirling on Sunday Night at 8.30pm on Channel Seven.

it is heartening to see something wonderful coming from something so senseless and tragic.
