"Wait, what?" A lot of people are very confused by the Australian Ninja Warrior finale.

As Jack Wilson stepped up to the start of tonight’s Australian Ninja Warrior grand finale course, host Ben Fordham narrated.

“He was the first Ninja up the warped wall,” the Channel 9 journalist said. “Can Jack produce something special again tonight?”

And that he did. That he did.

Thanks to his trademark pair of Aboriginal flag togs and some no doubt strategically positioned cameras, the audience received a, shall we say, rather intimate look at the 24-year-old Queenslander’s run.

Wilson told Today Extra this morning that budgie smugglers were a way of proudly representing his culture, but also because of the "free range of movement" they offer.

It was precisely all that, err, free movement that had viewers blushing.

If you felt confronted from the safety of your living room, spare a thought for Ninja Warrior's sideline guy, Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff.

"From here I'm getting a fantastic view of the budgie smugglers," said from his prime net-side possie. "Not sure I want it. But I can see 'em."

We'll let you decide what "em" refers to.

Ben Fordham speaks to Laura Brodnik on The Binge. Post continues below.

Also, in case you're interested in the actual results, Wilson - who was among the favourites -
dipped out in Stage Two.

As did everyone else who made it that far.

In an incredibly anticlimactic end to the popular premiere season, not one of the 21 competitors managed to successfully complete the course and win the title of Australian Ninja Warrior.

“Well, we warned the second part of this course was going to be tough," summed up host Rebecca Maddern this evening, "but it was brutal, taking out our ninjas in the first few obstacles and leaving Mount Midoriyama untouched."

The best performance of the night belonged to Fred Dorrington, who made it as far as the Unstable Bridge when time ran out.
