Asher Keddie gives us a sneak peek into Season 5 of Offspring.

Asher Keddie, who plays Nina on Channel 10’s Offspring gives us a sneak preview of Season 5: “It felt like the timing was right,” she said.

Remote controls at the ready everyone, because Asher Keddie is entering our (viewing) lives again with the highly anticipated return of Channel 10’s Offspring.

The 39-year-old Gold Logie winning actress has revealed the joy she’s experienced playing Nina, as a first-time mum. With the final series of the popular TV series about to start, Asher has opened up about playing a single mum, following the death of her partner Dr Patrick Reid in the final episode of season four.

An exclusive preview of the final season, airing next Wednesday at 8:30pm, will open the door into the Proudman family home once. We’ll finally get to meet Nina’s daughter (played by Melbourne twins Mia and Willow Sindle). The first scene will begin six months after Patrick’s passing (R.I.P you beautiful human), with Nina relying on Sister Billie (played by Kat Stewart) for support.

Though the death of Patrick (remember: he wasn’t REAL you guys) sent shockwaves of distress across Australian households, Asher stands by the storyline. She told News Corp:

It felt like the timing was right. To see the sisters try and find their way to a place of relative emotional maturity is a battle for them but with the support of each other it becomes really the great love affair of this series. It’s been really fulfilling to play that out with Kat. We’ve had a really wonderful time together.

There’s so much joy in this season five, although people I suspect will be wondering because of how we left it. That’s understandable, but for me out of all the seasons there is the most joy in this one, funnily enough and the most hope. It’s really life-affirming because of what happened, because of that huge loss.

Asher also shared her experience of working with babies on set. Something she didn’t expect to enjoy as much as she did…

People have said for years `never work with children or animals’ but I couldn’t disagree more. I’ve had the most fantastic time working with a baby on set because you just never know what you’re going to get. The challenge of that is wonderful as an actress … it’s really good for you.

The timing of the storyline couldn’t’ be better for the actress, who herself has plans to become a mother. In fact she’s already a step-mum to Luca, age 4, the son of her partner Vincent Fantauzzo.

Asher says:

I have a beautiful stepson in my life who lives with us and I am eternally grateful that he’s come into my life, I just adore him. I’m open to having children and maybe it will happen one day but I am very, very happy with the present as it is now. It was a good practice run…I have that experience already at home and it’s been great fun playing a mum, playing with a little baby on my lap this series. I loved it.

Not sure about you but we can't wait for the first episode of season 5 (which is widely rumoured to be the end of the popular TV franchise).
