The message started with, “Hi Sarah*, I hope you’ve enjoyed this March so far…”
Sarah thought to herself that the greeting was a little strange. Along with more than six billion others, Sarah had not particularly enjoyed March so far.
“This might seem totally random,” she continued, “I absolutely love your positive vibe and obvious passion for life!”
And then came the sell.
“I don’t know if you’re familiar with Arbonne and it’s plant-based philosophy, but after seeing your posts you strike me as someone who would absolutely smash this!
“Have you ever considered jumping in and joining the Arbonne community alongside what you’re doing? Or if you haven’t, would you be open to learning a bit more about what it is?
“Jessica* X.”

Arbonne seems to be Amway for millennials. I think this generation are particularly vulnerable to the idea of being able to make millions from home whilst doing comparatively little, given the recent emergence of social media celebrities achieving pretty much that. The entire premise doesn't seem dodgy, as this form of "work" has been normalised.
Got any stats on that? Cause that’s like saying that boomers all buy into MLMs because movie stars do ads to sell products, and they all think they are movie stars who can sell things too.
MLMs have always targeted stay at home mothers in strongly Christian communities, usually in the Midwest of the US, because they claim to be about ‘family values’. I havent seen any evidence that this has changed even a tiny bit, or any reason to try to make this about the ‘poor work ethic of millennials’
AMEN!!! I am so surprised at the number of smart, well educated friends who do this crap and make me come to their parties. It is so awkward!! They are good friends, and I value their friendship, so I go along and listen to their spiel and I purchase one thing, which I don’t actually use or need and would never normally buy (it’s soooooo expensive!!! And we are on a budget, I actually buy my super cheap shampoo and skincare all from Aldi 😂).
I wish they wouldn’t try to sell me stuff. It makes me feel like they don’t actually value my friendship. At least they haven’t been pushy about me joining and selling too... that would probably be straw that broke the camels back....
