Are you applying your sunscreen correctly with your makeup?

We have all heard it a million times, and it is absolutely the most important thing you can do to prevent premature aging and all the other nasty’s that go along with too much sun exposure: wear sunscreen every day.

How to apply your sunscreen:

Thoroughly cleanse your skin and apply sunscreen to a dry face; SPF 30 or 50 will give you the best protection. Then let the sunscreen sink into your skin for 2-3 minutes before applying your foundation. Not only will this help protect your skin, it will also provide a less slippery surface to apply your foundation to.

What you really need to look for in a sunscreen.

An easier option is to buy an all-in-one BB cream, CC cream or Tinted moisturiser with a high SPF, which will make the process a lot quicker – try Sun Sense moisturising Face SPF 50, Bobbi Brown BB Cream SPF 30, Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream SPF 30 (see gallery below for details).

Now, powder your face with a translucent powder to matte down any excess shine you may have from the sunscreen and continue with your normal makeup routine. For extra protection, apply an SPF lip balm to keep your lips soft and silky – Natio Moisturising Lip Balm SPF 30.

If you are out in the sun all day you will need to reapply, which can be tricky with a face of makeup.

BB creams and tinted moisturisers can be reapplied over the top, just ensure you blend well. Those with a foundation base can mix a little sunscreen and foundation together before reapplying which helps it blend or try a Mineral Powder with SPF – The Body Shop Extra Virgin Minerals Loose Powder Foundation SPF 25, MAC Mineral powder Loose SPF 15 – buff it liberally all over the face to ensure full SPF coverage.

You are now ready to enjoy the sun safely.
