There's a lot of anger over Angie Bowie's Big Brother reaction to ex-husband David Bowie's death.

In the hours after David Bowie died, one question gathered steam among the mourners.

When would his ex-wife Angie Bowie find out?

The former model who split from Bowie in 1980 after ten years of marriage is currently a guest in the UK Celebrity Big Brother house.

She was cut off from the outside world, with a barrage of cameras tracking her every move.

After telling her the news, Angie Bowie elected to stay in the house.

And then the cameras were turned back on.

Small segments of the footage aired in the UK overnight.

“I haven’t seen him for so many years, I can’t make a big drama out of it. I just feel like an era has ended with his passing. I’m so very sad,” she says in the footage, speaking directly to camera in the diary room.

“The stardust is gone.”

In the subsequent footage she tells fellow guests David Gest and John Partridge that she wanted to stay so the press wouldn’t be able to reach her.

“I just don’t want the press to get to me. I’d prefer to be here, but I’m damned if I do and damned if I don’t,” she said.

“If I leave, I look callous, if I stay, I look callous.”

The footage has caused a social media uproar, with many people seemingly thinking that Angie Bowie was told on camera.

OfCom, the British media regulator, has reportedly received 13 official complaints about the footage.

Angie Bowie’s manager Ray Santilli said the decision to stay was hers alone and that she had gone into the Big Brother house “knowing that her emotions would be laid bare”.

“I was asked to go into the house around midday yesterday. We took her off camera and explained the situation,” he told BBC Radio 5.

“She had plenty of time, she’s a very intelligent, very measured woman and it was emotional. She took the time to think about the ramifications,” he said.

“She decided that she wanted to continue. She didn’t want to be seen to be cashing in and leave the house immediately.

“She made the decision to go back into the house. She made the decision to be interviewed afterwards. And obviously when Big Brother’s talking to her and asking questions it is emotional, but the whole Big Brother experience is emotional and she knew that before she went into the house.”

The full episode has since aired in the UK, and involved some confusion among the housemates.

After Angie Bowie returned from being told the news, she relayed it to fellow housemate Tiffany Pollard (who is famous for being on reality TV) who then got a bit mixed up.

Angie Bowie was saying “David is dead” and Pollard thought she meant fellow contestant David Gent.

She then became hysterical, and told the other housemates the incorrect news.

It was a shambles.

Ultimately, Pollard was pressured by some contestants to leave the house, but was not nominated for eviction because she has immunity this week.

Angie Bowie is up for eviction.
