Celebrity superstars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are have reached an agreement over the custody of their children during their divorce proceedings.
It is being reported the six children shared between the couple are to remain in Jolie’s custody with visitation offered to their father.
News of the agreement was communicated by a statement obtained by ET from one of Jolie’s representatives.
The statement said the legal arrangement was suggested by childcare professionals and was signed by both parties more than a week ago.
“In accordance with this agreement, the six children will stay in their mother’s custody, and the children will continue therapeutic visits with their father,” the statement said.
“This has been determined by childcare professionals to be in the children’s best interest.”

The statement went on to reiterate how the family hoped to maintain a level of privacy around the current proceedings.
“We are not in a position to discuss the details. We hope, now that it is clear that the events which led to the dissolution filing involved minor children and their well being, there will be understanding of the sensitivity of the family situation,” it said.
“We believe that all sides are committed to healing the family and ask for your consideration during this difficult time.”
The current custody arrangement is understood to be temporary while their divorce is finalised.
Late last week, Pitt filed a request for joint custody of the children; 15-year-old Maddox, 12-year-old Pax, 11-year-old Zahara, 10-year-old Shiloh, and 8-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

Jolie and Pitt were together for 12 years before the pair filed for divorce with “irreconcilable differences”.
Pitt previously offered a statement to People that expressed his emotions following the split.
“I am very saddened by this but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids,” he said.
“I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
