Long hours and no breaks. The world's toughest job.

What would you say is the world’s toughest job?

Heart surgery? Human rights lawyer? Prime Minister? Being a baker and getting up a 3am every morning to let the dough rise? Actuary?

Cardstore, by card company American Greetings created a fake job and posted it online. They then created a video from the interviews they conducted with potential candidates.

The job is for Director of Operations.

The interviews commence and the interview takes the applicants through the role.

“The responsibilities and requirements are really quite extensive,” he tells one candidate. “This job requires that you work standing up all of the time.”

“For how many hours?”

He replies, “From 135 hours to unlimited hours.”

We learn that there are no breaks on this job. “You can have lunch, but only when the associate is done eating their lunch.” Not only that, but there are no holidays. “In fact, at Christmas and the holidays, the workload will go up.”

And it seems as if the job requires someone with “We’re looking for someone who might have a degree in medicine, finance and the culinary arts.”

The interview informs the candidates, “The position is going to pay absolutely nothing,” but that “the feelings you get from helping your associate are immeasurable.”

The responses from the applicants are nothing short of shock. “That’s almost cruel,” says a young woman. “That’s inhumane,” says a middle aged man.

The interviewer then reveals what we have already guessed.

“There are billions of people who currently hold this job. Yeah. Mums.”
