'When my mate decided to end our friendship, she read out a notebook full of reasons why.'

Get out of the kitchen because I've got a story so cooked, it's burnt. 

I need to preface this by saying that this isn't my story, I just live for petty friendship drama. 

This chaotic friendship breakup story comes from TikTok user Amanda Talijan and involves a notebook, a side-character sister and three pieces of hand jewellery (before you ask, no, this story doesn't take place at Coachella in 2014). 

Strap in, I'm going to attempt to decode everything that went down.

So... this starts off with Amanda's friend gifting her a hand-chain for her birthday.

Her friend said that she had the same one and that it was a collector's item that she loved so much, she wanted Amanda to have one as well.

"I was so impressed and actually shocked that she got it for me and I was like 'wow, I've always admired it on you'," Amanda recounted. 

"And she was like, 'I know, you compliment mine all the time so you should have one too, here you go!'"

Amanda said that her obsession with the hand chain grew, so she bought two more for herself. Although I cannot relate to the need for multiple hand chains, these seemed like innocent enough purchases. She liked something, so she bought more of that something. 

Amanda's friend, however, was not a fan of this "add-to-cart" behaviour. 

The next time Amanda saw her friend was at a photo shoot for a business that Amanda was launching. Her friend brought her sister and the two of them helped Amanda with her hair and makeup for the shoot.

During that event, Amanda said that she felt the vibe shift with her friend and the sister, but didn't think much of it at the time.

After that event, Amanda didn't hear from either of them for four days even though she reached out multiple times. Her friend then sent her a text that said "Have you noticed that I haven't been answering you..?"

They then jumped on a call and her friend said she noticed that Amanda had THREE hand-chains and was offended that Amanda had bought a third one without her permission...

This is where I admire Amanda because if my friend said that to me, I'm not going to lie, I would've died laughing. 

Amanda said that she was shocked and said "Oh my God, I'm so sorry that that bothered you. I didn't even think to ask your permission because... I don't think I need to ask your permission, but sorry if that bothered you."

Her friend replied, "Thank you for receiving that so well, so I'd appreciate it if you don't wear it anymore."

"I guess I can not wear it around you, but whatever," Amanda replied. 

That is where the phone call ended. 

Honestly, at this point I feel like I'm having a fever dream. 

Unfortunately, it gets messier.

Amanda understandably felt weird about that whole conversation so called her friend a week later. She said that she thought it was weird for her friend to ask her to not wear her hand chains around her. 

In response, her friend said that she didn't want Amanda to not wear them around her... she wanted Amanda to get rid of them completely. She said that she ALSO owned had three hand-chains and that she was sick of Amanda copying her. 

Still weirded out by the whole thing, they both planned a day to have a big conversation about the issue.

And yep, this is where the notebook comes in. 

Her friend came to this conversation PREPARED.

It was over the phone but Amanda could hear her opening the notebook, reading what she wrote and flipping pages. What was she reading? Just every single time Amanda pissed her off in their five years of friendship. 

She told Amanda that she "copies and pastes" her life and that she wants to be her. 

Amanda said "This is so bizarre, I have two sisters, we copy each other all the time. I don't see it as copying, I see it as being inspired."

Her friend doubled down telling Amanda how fake she was and that she's an awful person who's trying to steal her life. She wanted Amanda to apologise.

Amanda stood her ground and said that she couldn't do any of that...

Her friend replied, "I thought you were going to say that, so I want you to know, that this friendship is officially over. I will be unfollowing you on social media, we are not connected anymore and I'll miss you as my friend." 

Amanda hung up and they didn't speak after that.

Fast forward to a year later, Amanda receives an email from that same friend saying that she's changed and grown but that they both needed to take responsibility for the things they had done. 

But Amanda decided to leave the friendship where those hand chains belong — in the past. 

If there's one thing I've learnt from this is that hand jewellery can make or break a friendship: wear it wisely.
