Looking for adventure? You should really be watching Alone on Stan.

Freezing cold. Hungry. Wet. On the edge of illness. Clothes ripped. Scared.

Alone.

This is the reality for the brave contestants who put their lives on the line in the hugely popular series, Alone on Stan. Yes, it sounds like insanity to put your body through such turmoil but when there's a USD$500,000 cash prize waiting for the last standing contestant — you'll push the limits.

After debuting in 2015, Alone has returned for an 11th US season on Stan and this time the stakes are even higher.

Touted as the most remote location to date, season 11 sees 10 contestants choppered into the Arctic Circle and left to fend for themselves in the harsh wilderness.

Who will be the last person left alone? If you're not already watching this show on Stan, you really should be.

What happens on Alone?

As the name suggests, this reality TV series is all about being completely isolated in order to test your willpower, prowess, and physical endurance.

10 contestants have been dropped into a remote wilderness area and are expected to fend for themselves only using basic tools and provisions. Contestants have been separated so they won't come in contact with each other and had to quickly find shelter after being dropped in by a helicopter.

Each contestant was given camera equipment and are required to self-film themselves along their quest to be the last person standing. If a contestant decides they can no longer compete in the competition they will use the satellite phone they've been given to "tap out" and remove themselves from contention of winning the major cash prize.

The last contestant left in the competition gets a hefty USD$500,000 pay packet for their troubles.

Where was season 11 of Alone US filmed?

No season of Alone has ever looked like a piece of cake but we guess the show producers really wanted to push the boundaries of what contestants can endure this time around.

Filmed in the most northern location yet, the Arctic Circle is the location for season 11 of Alone US and the name alone just sends a chill through your bones, doesn't it? Dropped at Mackenzie River Delta in Canada's Northwest Territories region, this is a barren land and there's certainly no Four Seasons Hotel available.

While there may not be a lot of mod-cons along the Mackenzie River it sure is one of the most visually stunning geographical landscapes in the world. Temperatures are known to plummet and get down to as low as -40 degrees in the winter.

When contestants aren't fishing for their supper, they have to keep their wits about them with grizzly bears, wolves and bald eagles known to inhabit the area.

Past seasons of Alone have seen contestants brave places like Argentina, Mongolia and lower regions of Canada — so it's safe to safe with the harsh, biting conditions of the Arctic Circle, these wilderness warriors have their work cut out for them.

What can contestants take with them while filming Alone?

Things would be a whole lot easier if you could be dropped into the Arctic Circle with shelter, gas, toiletries and a rather lare suitcase full of warm clothes — but where would the fun be in that?

Before being dropped into the Mackenzie River Delta contestants are given a pretty strict list of things they can and cannot take.

From a list of shelter, bedding and hygiene items contestants are allowed to select 10 items which may include things like a tarp, a sleeping bag, dental floss, soap, a hammock or climbing rope. It's a fairly no-frills list to choose from but it's a decision that must be made wisely and could mean the difference between withstanding the cold or going home early and missing out on the grand prize.

Over on the food and cooking side, contestants are only allowed to take two items from a list that includes things like flour, rice, chocolate, a bowl, a water bottle, lentils or a foraging bag. Outside of that contestants are expected to hunt and forage for the food — which, as we know from past seasons, can be fraught with complications depending on weather conditions and skills.

There are also a number of tools contestants can take with them including a machete, a hunting knife, an LED flashlight, a saw, and an ax. All of these items are incredibly handy to have but contestants need to remember that if they have to suddenly move camp after not eating for three days, that's a lot of gear to shift.

Contestants are also prohibited from taking things like maps, fishing traps, sunglasses, fuel, beauty products or tents.

So you can forget about doing your 10-step Korean skincare beauty regime, it's just gonna be you and the great outdoors.
