What a legend: Abby Coleman has shaved her head for World's Greatest Shave.

Abby Jane Coleman shaved her hair off on Friday morning for World’s Greatest Shave. The Brisbane radio presenter shared on Thursday that although her hair acts as “a security blanket” and is her “favourite attribute”, she wanted to shave it off to raise awareness for the Leukemia Foundation.

“Sometimes your lucky enough to meet people that inspire you and for me that was a funny determined four year old called Bridget (you can see her on the second photo when we first met),” the Hit105 host shared with her followers.

“When she relapsed a few years later I promised a higher being if they just helped her I would do something to pay it back. She is ten now and tomorrow its pay day [sic] – the hair comes off!”

Hair is one of the defining characteristics of mammals so I can understand why it’s so important. For me it’s a security blanket, my femininity and honestly I just darn love my hair, it’s my favourite attribute. But sometimes your lucky enough to meet people that inspire you and for me that was a funny determined four year old called Bridget (you can see her on the second photo when we first met) When she relapsed a few years later I promised a higher being if they just helped her I would do something to pay it back. She is ten now and tomorrow its pay day – the hair comes off! Thank you to all those that have donated I’ve read them all and to those that haven’t if you can spare a few dollars it would be so much as I’ve seen first hand what the Leukemia Foundation does to help those that are in fear and pain. On her fundraising page, the 36-year-old further added the attachment she feels to her hair. “I’ll modestly say I’ve never had a bad hair day, so shaving my head is a huge, huge deal for me. Hair can grow back though – lives can not be replaced.”

So this morning, Coleman shaved her blonde locks off as Hit105 broadcast it on live radio in Brisbane. Coleman completed the shave with the little girl, Bridget, who inspired the shave right next to her the whole time.

Coleman shared photos of her new style via her Instagram, saying, “And it’s done!!! Thank you for donating!!!”

Coleman followed up the post by revealing she had raised $64,000 for the Leukemia Foundation – a number that continues to grow on the donation page.

The radio presenter added that when she returned to work, the men in the office had shaved their heads in support of their coworker, sharing a photo of all their shaved heads together.

“Screw Cancer!! People are awesome,” she captioned the post.
