Weird habits other families think are completely normal.

Ah, families.

While each fam is weird in its own right, nothing quite beats hearing about the whacky habits other families subscribe to behind closed doors.

For instance, my mother insisted on nicknaming me and my siblings ‘possum poo’. She has called us that since we were the height of her bellybutton, and has continued to do so even now we’re well into adulthood. I don’t know why, but if you call me ‘possum poo’, I’ll probably respond like it’s my given name.

Anyway. I’m going to stop waffling and let some Redditors step in before I incriminate the entire Andrews family and am banished from Christmas lunch forevermore.

1. Butter up.

Reddit user ‘Holein5′ witnessed his best friend’s family do something SO FREAKIN’ WEIRD, it’s stuck with him for years.

They “didn’t have traditional snacks like fruit rollups, gushers, etc. They ate sticks of butter. Sticks of f**king butter,” he says.

MMMMMMMM a little snack, anyone? (Image: iStock)

"Whenever they offered me some I always told them I wasn't hungry. They had multiple packages of butter in the fridge and freezer. They didn't consume the entire stick rather would cut off pieces. They weren't poor, they weren't fat, but they were fucking crazy."

2. Not 'til you're 16.

While most families use the 'not until you're 16' rule for things like booze and body piercings, 'berinnaa' says her friend's family had an age-restriction of a different kind.

"None of them were allowed to cut their hair. They had to wait until they were sixteen so they wouldn't get a haircut they'd regret - because the mother had."

3. Don't talk and chew.

But wait - 'berinnaa's friend's family got even weirder.

"They also weren't allowed to talk at the dinner table. One time one of the daughters was laughing at something and coughed on her food. The mom was afraid of one of them choking and dying, so talking was banned. No one told me that when I came over for dinner. I just talked and they all stared at me."

4. Cuddle buddies.

'NotABoss0814' always found it weird that, during summer, the kids who lived next door would alternate going inside for 30 minutes each.

'They were all pretty normal kids, but the mom seemed kind of clingy... Every single day around midday, the mom would call the kids back to the house, one at a time. They would have to go inside for about a half hour, then come out and the next kid would go in. Never thought too much about it, until one day I was actually in their house with them and found out why she called them.'

"She had mandatory cuddle time with each of the kids. They would lay on the couch, and she would spoon them, in the quiet, for about 30 minutes each. Weirdest thing I've ever encountered."

5. Transfixed.

"I went to a friends house and we put some cartoons on. While we were watching I asked him a question but he didn't respond, he was fixated on the TV, absolutely glued. His childminder just laughed "oh he'll be like that all evening now".

"I just had to wait for my parents to pick me up whilst he unflinchingly watched TV for hours..."

Yikes.

6. This will make you tear up

Redditor 'epolenep88' says their high school friend's family ate a snack that would make most people cry a river. RAW ONION.

MMMMMM if I couldn't tempt you with the butter, can I tempt you with this tasty treat?.... BYO mayo, I'm not made of money you guys. (Image: iStock)

"She asked her mom for a snack and her mom brought out a huge raw white onion completely slathered in mayo on a plate and she and my friend just went at it with their forks like it was filet mignon. 4 years later and I still think about that shit from time to time."

7. Plating up.

'EastLondon12' knew a girl in high school whose family was OBSESSED with dinner plates.

"They had such a huge collection of collectible plates in their house that every room was full of them on display. Their entire house was basically a library set up for these things. Her bedroom was a mattress on the floor surrounded by display cases of plates."

My cousins family eats Kingston biscuits dipped in condensed milk for breakfast probably about once a week. The two parents both have Type 2 Diabetes and other cardiovascular health issues. Their daughter is morbidly obese.

I think berinnaa's friends mum has a serious mental problem. She takes 'better safe than sorry' to a new level.

Btw love the pic with the milking can scene! Classic.
