Eh, I'm struggling to see how #3 would be flattering on anyone. I'm assuming that model has a waist of some description, not that you can see it in that dress. I'm a maxi fan in general but that one is just horrible. The shape, the weird pattern, the transparent panels. Awful.
I love the shape of #2 though. Really nice over the shoulders and love the nipped-in waist. I wish I could find one like that...you know, for NOT $240! I'd love a cotton solid or stripe in that kind of shape.

It is really hard for someone to pull off a maci dress -I really don't think they're flattering on a woman's figure, especially for 5"2 shorties like me!

Oh No YoungVintage thats not the case! I am only that height and for the first time in my life (I am 36) I have discovered the maxi!!
Have always thought I am too short and therfore the maxi makes us shorties look shorter and dumpy.
Here are my personal hot tips I hope work for you and others - material! material! material! Don't choose cotton....underwear yes, maxi dress no! You need weight in the material so it drops and holds that shape. Size - go a size shorter. Its a maxi dress god damn it, so as long as it fits you across the boobs and arms, get a size smaller so it doesn't add that glowing 'pregnancy' look as a non-pregnant person you don't want! Get it taken up (yep, they don't make petite versions) so that the hem is just sitting on top of your feet. That way you can wear flats or heels and not lose the flow.
Now further to this, I have discovered the best maxi's that suit all the above criteria can be found at wwww.boohoo.com. Go the bandeau/strapless versions as its elasticated across your boobs (I am a DD so its perfect for small and big) and again a size smaller should drop and fall nicely on your body. I'll see if I can upload a pic of one. There are heaps of design and they are flattering. I have literally just dropped off 6, yep 6! to an alteration place to be taken up about 17 inches....once I am onto a good thing I am guilty of buying in mutliple colours/patterns! GOOD LUCK
