The nominations for the 89th Academy Awards were revealed overnight in a series of pre-recorded videos.
Following its success at the Golden Globes, La La Land has received a whopping 14 Oscar nominations including the trifecta of highest honours: best picture, Ryan Gosling for best actor and Emma Stone for best actress.
The musical drama now shares the record for the most Oscar nominations with Titanic and All About Eve. La La Land was also recognised in the cinematography, costume design, direction, film editing, music, production design, sound, and writing categories.
Australian stars are also in the running for Oscar awards. Nicole Kidman has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Lion and Mel Gibson received a Best Director nod for his film Hacksaw Ridge.
And there's one massive shift we're pleased to report. Following the #OscarsSoWhite controversy that surround the 2016 Academy Awards, this year's nominations are noticeably more racially diverse. Ten African American actors and creatives have received nominations for their work in the 2017 nominations. The storylines of the films recognised this year are also more diverse than previous years.
The 89th Academy Awards will take place on the 26th of February.
