Teenage girls across the world are publicly rejecting feminism.
Now, excuse me one moment while I get inside my bomb shelter, but I can kind of see their point.
Yesterday, we reported on the most depressing site on the Internet. It’s a Tumblr called ‘Woman Against Feminism’, where girls – most of them barely out of puberty – share all the reasons they’re not feminists.
It’s galling stuff. Stuff that’s prompted pained howls from all corners of the f-word wielding Internet. But I know where it comes from.
Signs that say: “I don’t need feminism because the men in my life care about and respect me” make sense to me. They come from the same place as teenage blockbuster actress Shailene Woodley and popstar Katy Perry saying that they’re not feminists.
They come from the fact that feminism has a marketing problem.
If you were raised with an awareness of feminism, then it might be incomprehensible that people don’t get the basic “equal rights, safety and access regardless of gender” message of the movement.
Seeing people missing the basic point completely; missing the fact that “the men in my life care about and respect me” is feminism, probably makes you want to shout and throw things. It probably makes you want to shake your fists and scream “How could people still think this way?!”

I'm anti-feminist, I never used to be in fact I was raised by a feminist mother and up untill about a year ago I viewed feminism in a favorable if often unthought of light. Then I started encountering feminists online...
My intital encounters weren't pleasant but I enjoy learning about new ideologies and beliefs and the nature of the adherents to an ideology has no bearing on its merit so I looked into it a little more, I read work both supporting and opposing feminism and I found out that many of the claims most used by feminists such as 77c for every $1 and an epidemic of rape on collage campuses were at best misleading and at worst an outright lie. Simply asking about these inconsistencies between evidence and claims had feminists labeling me as a misogynist, woman abuser and potential rapist.
I tried looking for feminists that are actually willing to discuss these issues and those few people who self identify as feminist and are willing to challenge these factual inconsitantcies (CH Sommers for example) I was repeatedly told weren't feminist. Where as extremists such as Jessica Valenti who among many other kooky ideas advocates pay segregation based on gender are accepted voices of feminism in mainstream media.
Combined with the seemingly ever growing numbers of radical feminists who want things such as a "male tax" a gender apartheid on trains, a ban on free speech for their opposition and the end of all prison sentences for women.
And that's without even getting into the feminists who support genocide to get rid of 9/10th of men or concentration camps for anyone who disagrees with them.
Frankly I've come to the conclusion that with feminism the lunatics are running the asylum. If feminism wants to clean up its image it need to be willing to stand up to the lunatics and fanatics and to be willing to admit its faults and move forward from there.
I've got this new philosophy that stands for pretty much everything feminism does - male ownership of domestic duties, anatomical autonomy, closing the wage gap, everything. It's called Maleism. It's for everyone, not just men, but you too. Sure, it may have a bit of a marketing problem, but that's just because women don't really know what it stands for...
