Rupert Murdoch is dating Jerry Hall. We did not see that coming.

Rupry? Murhall? What is this?

Bring on the celebrity power couples. Mila and Ashton? Yes. Ellen and Portia? Yes. Kim and Kanye? Two big names we can mush into one? What’s not to like?

But here’s a celebrity pairing that caught us off guard: Rupert Murdoch, 84, and Jerry Hall, 59 are an item.

The romance between Media Overlord Murdoch and Mick Jagger’s model-actress ex-wife seems… unexpected. While the world has only learned of the pair’s dalliance this week, Murdoch, 84, and former model Hall, 59, are said to be quite smitten after being introduced in Australia by Murdoch’s sister and niece.

According to Mail Online: ‘It’s all very new. They are really enjoying each other’s company very much.’

If the tabloids are to be believed, they are going to make their public debut at the Rugby World Cup Final next Saturday.

And in the spirit of strange love, here’s a list of other celebrity couples (and former couples) that we never saw coming.

1. Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie.

Ah, it only feels like yesterday that our beloved Ange was married to actor Billy Bob Thornton. We all have lovely memories of the pair galavanting around Hollywood Blvd whilst wearing vials of each other’s blood around their necks. Because nothing says romance better than a vial of your Significant Other’s blood, right? Right.

There was twenty year age gap between the pair, but as we will find out (many, many times) in this list, LOVE KNOWS NO AGE, OK?

Angelina was Billy Bob’s fifth wife, the pair marrying after a whirlwind two-month courtship in 2000.  They later separated in 2002, citing irreconcilable differences.

2. Hugh Hefner et al.

Next up we’ve got the infamous Hugh Hefner and his lengthy string of busty romantic liaisons. If Hugh has taught us anything over the years, it’s that being 89-years-old is no barrier to finding tender love in the arms of a much younger blonde lady.

The adult mag mogul has had three wives in his time, and is currently wed to a woman seventy years his junior in 26-year-old glamour model, Crystal Hefner.

3. Woody Allen and Soon-Yi.

Just when you thought you can’t get much creepier than vials of blood and 70-year age gaps, along comes Woody Allen, King of Creepy.

The actor and playwright caused more than just a stir when news broke of his love affair with his long-term partner’s daughter in 1992. Allen had been with Mia Farrow for nearly 12 years and had co-adopted two children with her when his absurd relationship with her 21-year-old adopted daughter, Soon-Yi, was exposed.

Korean-born Soon-Yi and Allen later married in 1997, and together have two adopted daughters. The, erm, unlikely pair are still together to this day. The word he uses to describe their relationship? Paternal. 

We’ll just let that sink in for a moment.

4. Doug Hutchinson and Courtney Stodden.

The short version? They wed in 2011. He was 50, she was 16.

The odd pair connected via the internet when Stodden decided she wanted to break into Hollywood. Once the two met in person at one of Hutchinson’s acting workshops, they decided it was sweet, sweet love, and wed shortly after. While Hutchinson, 34 years Stodden’s senior, has been labelled a pedophile by critics, the pair insist that love knows no age.

It’s no secret that their marriage has been a turbulent one, with the pair backflipping between filing for divorce and then later reconciling, but according to all reports they are still together today.

5. Kris Jenner and Corey Gamble.

Okay, so we’re not gonna lie, we can’t help but like Kris Jenner more as a result of her flipping that good ol’ Patriarchal Hierarchy back onto itself and hooking up with a man 25 years younger than her.

She’s no stranger to the limelight, and boy-oh-boy did she demand it when she stepped out with her Road Manger boyfriend, Corey Gamble.

At least she didn’t nab him when he was still considered a minor, though (which, you know, we kinda consider as important).

As you were, Kris and Corey, as you were.

6. James Packer and Mariah Carey.

And finally, we’ve arrived at our final celeb couple, Mr Casino James Packer and his latest flame, Queen of Sass and All Things Diva, Miss Mariah Carey.

Carey has expressed her affection for her billionaire beau on stage, telling her crowds that he has stolen her heart.

“I’ve got a new heart tonight,” she told one Las Vegas audience. “James is in the house. Thank you for my heart. I dedicate this next song to you.”

We’re sure it’d be quite an interesting relationship given that Carey is the ultimate Pop Princess, once refusing to get out of her limo until staff had rolled out a red carpet lined with white candles so she could make her dramatic entrance… Rightio, then.
