I don't know what I think about this. Perhaps you can help me work it out.
Brooke Shields and her husband and two daughters have appeared in an ad for a brand of towels called Royal Velvet. The picture is cute enough although the towels? A little tacky. Anyway.
One part of me says "Not cool to sell your family".
And another part says "Don't be so judgemental. Her family, her decision. Everyone needs to make a buck. Why shouldn't she?"
As I post this, the two parts are still fighting.
Helpfully (defensively?), Brooke issued a statement when the ad was released this week.....
Brooke said:
"At this point in my career, I only do projects that I believe in. Royal Velvet made sense for me and my family because it felt authentic and it is a classic brand with amazing products. A royal moment for me is when one of my daughters holds my face in her hands and says, 'oh, so pretty mama,' it makes me feel like a princess."

I was going to defend Brooke for the ad... but that quote is just so tacky and wrong!!! I've got no problem with her having the kids in the ad, but why oh why dear Brooke are you promoting towels?

hm... Personally I don't think this is any different to the other option of staging the same "family feel" photo with people not related to her. i.e. any random male model & some other child models. The kids are still exposed to the media, whether they're Brooke Shields's or any other's.

At least she's admitting she's advertising the towels, unlike that photo of Jenny Garth you blogged about where the whole family were wearing Crocs.

That quote is nauseating!

they could have at least been doing a bathroom scene !!! it looks like the are promoting bed linen and the towels really don't fit into the image of it all.
i agree, quote is really nauseating, but i dont have kids so it could be okay from a mum's perspective!

For someone who was a precocious child star with a pushy stage mother I would have thought she'd be very protective of her own children and not want them photographed at all. There you go.

I know she may not be struggling wth interest rates and rising petrol prices, but at the moment, any opportunity like that presented to me I would take it. My husband & I are apparently the new rich, $150,000 - I don't think so, so sign me up to Royal Velvet - I love towels!

Louise honey, from where I'm standing with my fiance ($60,000) you are rich.

I agree with Amy, no matter whose kids they are, they are being exposed. One would hope that Brooke would use her experience with the media to protect and counsel her children.
And Louise, to those of us on less than $30,000 a year between the two of us - you are not only rich, you are beyond my wildest dreams rich.
